Why so many disaster and spies

Every 2 or 3 turns, volcanoes, floods...
Yes, "standard" has quite a lot of disasters. However, most of them are very positive and lead to crazy yields
And every 2 or 3 turns, a spy steals tech or dogmas...
Fully agree! Counterspying is nice in the later stages of the game, but I cannot afford it in the mid-game. On the other hand, stealing techs and civics is fun to do...

I steal relentlessly from the AI so I'm not sure why I should get all hot and bothered when they do it to me.

It feels like a lot more since both of those have pop ups, the disaster one is pretty but especially egregious. Why can’t they just have it be a notification, if you want to see the animation you can click it.

Civ 6 also still has this problem - they need to clean up what should get a pop up vs what’s a notification on the side. (I forget the specific example from Civ 6 but had the same thought.)

I'd rather have disasters occur less frequently and be more severe, like little mini-crises instead of a river going muddy for a turn or needing to relentessly repair tiles next to volcanoes.

Thats too much
You can turn the natural disaster setting to "light" if it bothers you. I like it on the maximum setting.

I do wish the notification pictures are different for one concluding an espionage action, versus one catching another civ doing espionage actions in one's civ.

Having to read the huge blob of text to get a clear idea of what's happening espionage-wise can be annoying if it happens often enough.

The spying seems to make no difference to my game. Steal away. You steal can't win.

In Civ6, I HATED it when my governors got neutralised with my own spy doing counterspying on the same freaking tile.

I've kept the Disaster Setting on light while I am learning all the ins and outs of the game, and I still have seen the same volcano erupt or the same river flood 3 turns in a row. That might be purely random, but it's still another of many things in Civ VII that are Annoying As H**l.

Especially since, the few times I looked and kept track, that same river will then not flood for 40 turns or more! That ain't the way it works IRL: rivers prone to flooding keep right on flooding (cue the Nile, Egypt, et al) on a regular basis until something or someone changes conditions that caused the flooding (cue Climate Change, dams, canals, Major Infrastructure projects, etc). I would much prefer that the disasters that are consistent (river flooding, Hurricanes) be consistent, while them that are more random (volcanoes going off) be more random. Just a small tweak, admittedly, but part of a long and lengthening list of 'small tweaks' (and Not So Small) that Civ VII needs or could be improved by . . .

Spying doesn’t bother me much, but even on light, I get a disaster nearly every couple turns. Once I had the same volcano erupt three turns in a row lol.
