I started writing on the wiki and I decided on writing this thread to announce the progress.

The first page is for people who commit to git: https://sourceforge.net/p/colonizationmodcollection/wiki/Pre Commit checklist/

It is work in progress, but it will do for now. Hopefully we can avoid some conflicts by following this one.

Other people should feel free to add to the wiki. Also we have multiple wikis. If you can think of a way to make good use of having several, then tell me and I will start up more. Maybe we should have one for each mod.

Also it seems that you can sign up to get an email every time the wiki updates. At least I got such a mail. The same goes for git pushes.

I have written a guide on how to use git on the wiki. It consist of 4 pages all linking to each other. Using this guide people should be able to download from git, pick the correct branch, install compiler and compile the DLL for the chosen branch combo. As it has proven to be a harder task than I imagined, I made a step by step guide for everything and added screenshots of what it should look like.

Feedback is welcome and people should also feel free to improve. I just wrote the text as plain text, but I imagine it would look better if somebody takes the time to setup headlines and other text formatting.

it looks very well done.
We learned the hard way that the guide in GitHub didn't work as people still failed to use git. I wanted this time to be different, which is why my aim was so high that I kept postponing writing it :p
It's actually quite hard to write something like that even when you know how to do something like that yourself.

One thing, which is actually quite interesting is the page for the compiler setup:
https://sourceforge.net/p/colonizationmodcollection/wiki/compiler setup/

Compare it to the modiki guide:
http://modiki.civfanatics.com/index.php/How_to_Install_the_SDK

The size difference is a clear indication of how much possibly tricky setup people get "for free" by getting the already set up makefile and project files from git.

Thank you, Nightnggale. I think I will comprehend it eventually, though it looks (to me so far) as scary as Krebs cycle when I saw it first time. But then I got used to it and came to thinking it is really elegant. :) Can't get any simpler

Edit:
In the meanwhile, I have discovered that with my creative out-of-the-box thinking and my hands attached to my bottom rather than shoulders, I managed to place GIT cloned M:C folder inside the M:C folder I had downloaded manually (I thought I was sort of merging the folders when doing so). So now I know why GID did not see my '...-RUS.xml' files.

Now I killed the mess (with my files backed up) and will start over again - this time following your instructions, and their meaning will unfold before me as I move along :goodjob:
