I would download the free demo and see how it does before buying. If you're going to upgrade, you need more ram for sure. This thing will use up 256mb before you build your second city. I would recommend another 512mb stick (about $40-60 online depending on where you look). I have an Intel 82845g controller, pretty similar to yours and it runs (slowly). As I said earlier, try out the demo before deciding to upgrade. You can get the demo here:

You will need more ram for sure. The demo is only 100 turns so you don't have enough time to get the full effect of the late game slowdown.
