Will this computer work with ciV?

You can buy a new video card for the system, but then the question comes down to whether or not you're comfortable installing it yourself.

That would depend on whether or not it's a laptop. If it is, then forget about upgrading. If it's a desktop system then yes. And yes, the game might run with that chip, but it's highly unlikely it's going to run well.

Very true. The fact that it has integrated graphics does indicate that it is probably a laptop.

yes it is a laptop. I think the specs are
2.0 GHz dual core.
2GB RAM (which I am planning to upgrade to 4GB) before long.

I was definitely not thinking of installing it myself. I will probably get a desktop next year, so hopefully this will work until then.

Installing computer components is not as difficult as you might think it is. But since you have a laptop, that issue is moot. There's very little you can upgrade with those. You're pretty much limited to only RAM and the hard drive.

Frankly I wouldn't hold my breath. While we don't know yet what the system requirements will be, Civ 5 will most likely be more demanding than 4. And it will probably require a half-decent video card by today's standards. You'd be wise to expect the worst IMO.

It's not even a card, it's a video chip built into the motherboard. And no, it isn't any good. In fact it sucks. Those chips weren't designed for games, they're meant for things like spread sheets or text. You need a dedicated video card for good performance when playing games.

Perhaps Intel integrated cards are teh suck, but my Nvidia 9100 GeForce has been pretty good for an integrated card...

Runs L4D with no problem, Company of Heroes, Rome Total War, FEAR, Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, Tropico 3, Mount & Blade, Command & Conquer 3... all run just fine. Only has problems with the newer games like Empire: TW, and the like.

1) how much did you spend on it?
2) It is unlikely to work except on the very lowest settings

Yes, I was referring specifically to Intel chips. They're the worst of the bunch. While integrated graphics will never be as good as a dedicated card, some are better than others. Intel is about as basic as you can get. They should really stick with just CPUs.
