Will we ever get an expansion pack?

There's a bit of speculation round here that it's Railroad Tycoons turn for a Civ type remake... Then I do love the real time game, so I dunno...
Is this speculation based on anything or just wild speculation, like me speculating that it will be a Pirates type remake with a civ game?

People prefer the first half of the game to the last half. Ancient civilizations are more interesting than building submarines, etc.

They should do a 'Colonizaiton' like game, only call it 'Ancient Civilization' and have it run from 4000 BC to 1200 AD. Not just CiVI with 'half the game missing' but add more mechanics and things to do to build your anicent civilization.

People would go nuts for a Civ style game that focuses on Sumeria, Babylon, Hittites, etc.
Soooo...

Age of Empires then?

If there's a spin off, I'd rather have a (better done) Beyond Earth 2 or Alpha Centauri remake with Civ VI graphics and rules than a colonization remake again.

I agree. i love sci-fi settings. But the affinity system in BE was in fact a false good idea and it just limited the game. Also, no alien races was a bit idiotic.

The difference between turn-based and real-time is so big that I don't think it's fair to compare at all.

Or are you saying that Empries Dawn of the Modern World is just Civilization? That's basically an Age of Empires all the way to WWII.

We want an expansion!

We want an expansion!

We want an expansion!

Civ VI needs an expansion to entice Civ V veterans to play Civ VI, because Civ V is still more popular than Civ VI according to Steam.

The masses have no taste, that is nothing new.

Just to overstate the obvious, there's plenty of improvements the game needs before they get ambitious enough for an expansion. I'm tired of rebuilding the same custom game because my preferences can't be saved. It's frickin' annoying to think you're having a great game only to realize that you forget to set the difficulty beyond prince.

I'm tired of losing units because they don't know to stop auto-movement as soon as they see an enemy.

More map types, more gameplay mechanics, smoothed existing mechanics (especially diplomacy, which needs to be subtler). It would be nice to make leaderhead animations more readily skippable--right now, to skip them, you have to go through 2-3 screens. I prefer the real-time screens of Civ V (which also lacked the dark smudged-looking backgrounds of VI's leaders).

More music for each civ would also be nice. Hearing every other civ's music gets repetitive after the first few games of VI. Music from the Ethnic Sampler or Around the World in 80 Minutes (1-3 being the best) soundtracks in Spotify would be a godsend (especially songs like Beyond the Border from Ethnic Sampler 1, which would be an amazing fit for Chinese background music).

UI improvements, Hall of Fame, and victory score being raised when you end the game in victory early should also be implemented.

I imagine they'll unload a bunch of Asian, Middle Eastern, African and American civs on us (i.e. all the regions they fairly well neglected in the base game).

Maybe, if you want to play the game perfectly, you should deal with the burdens of playing perfectly, like making sure your settings are correct and moving units by hand every turn.

Hmm. Maybe. Let me think about it.

No, I find my position is the reasonable one. Players should not have to manually configure numerous settings before each game, nor have to move units by hand every turn. Playing the game well should not be about managing such minutia.

I agree. There's a lot of fundamental quality-of-life features which just aren't up to scratch (like a functioning Sentry mode).

Completely wild as far as I knew.

IIRC Civ 3 and 4 got expansions year one and two years after launch. However the DLC-model introduced with CiV makes it quite likely that a major expansion will take another year. In the case of Civ:BE, the expansion came after one year but then again BE didn't have any DLC's in the meantime...

To be honest, as long as they keep releasing patches in tandem with the paid DLC's, I prefer this model. Of course there is no direct connection between patching and paid DLC's per se, but it does mean that Firaxis still pour resources into making the game better and better.

I would prefer seeing a few expansions, as they are far better ways to add new features (world congress, railroads, canals, etc) to the game than DLCs.

This game desperately needs an expansion for Diplomacy and Espionage. They also really need to do something with Religion to make it slightly more interesting and less spam than it currently is. Finally they really need to put some time into the AI.

The Modern+ eras could be incredibly interesting but with AI that can't play the game and no true depth to Dip/Spy then I agree that Ancient to Renaissance is more interesting. There were so many interesting tweaks to how stuff operates in the modern eras but you never need to use them. Grrr.

I don't think we can use the two-year time for an expansion pack from Civ V as a guide. Ed Beach was not the lead designer for Civ V vanilla and was brought in to fix an underwhelming game. He must have needed some time to get up to speed. He's been with Civ VI since the beginning and probably had a couple of expansions planned from the start. I think we could see the first expansion by Christmas of this year.

I expect the first expansion next year, not this year.
It'll definitely have lots of the returning Civs (Netherlands, possibly Portugal, Mongols, Ottomans, a North American Amerindian group, Incas, maybe Maya, Korea, Ethiopia, Mali, possibly Zulus). I know they will probably have to save some of the above civs for the 2nd Expansion though. They need some of the Civ fan's favorites in both expansions in order for them to sell well.

Fix list:

barb spawn rate
CS military unit spam
forward settling by AI
diplomacy
espionage
religion

I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting...
