Hi all
I've recently installed the above mentioned graphics card.

Since installing the new card when I boot up Civ IV I get a message telling me the following.
Your machine is below recommended specifications. The graphic settings were altered to accomodate this, however, you may experience performance issues.

Once I've clicked OK to clear this message I can set the graphics options to high and then have to restart the game for the settings to take. Unfortunately I have to do this every time I start Civ IV and it's further compounded by the fact I then load up a Mod which does exactly the same thing again.

If I set the graphics options on the Mod and then close it all down and reload civ and then the mod the settings will save until I exit Civ.

A further issue connected to this is that even though I turn off Sid's tips they keep coming back on.

Has anyone else encountered a similar issue/problem?

CIV is a decade and more old. At the time that it was published, they set it to look for graphics cards, cpus, etc that it would work on and give the warning that you are seeing if the hardware was something else, assuming it was not up to the job. Unfortunately, the newer hardware, which works fine, often better than the stuff on their list, is not on the list and generates the situation that you are seeing. The solution is to shut off the hardware test. You can do that in the .ini:

Look for these lines:

; Don't show minimum specification warnings
HideMinSpecWarning = 0

Change the "0" to a "1" (that is a one not an el)

That should fix it.

If you can't find that line in the .ini just add it anywhere in the .ini with a blank line before and after, like this:

; Don't show minimum specification warnings
HideMinSpecWarning = 1

Wow, I had this same problem, and just shrugged it off. Found this thread randomly. It didn't bother me too much, but better graphics is always good; thanks!

Thank you so much for this, I've amended my config and Ini files accordingly and it has helped. The only problem I have now is that Sids tips are permanently on. So every time I load a game to continue playing I have to keep clearing the tips.

You should be able to shut off Sid's Tips using a check box in the regular BTS options menu. Be sure to use the 'save as a new default' (that's not the name of the option, just a description) option after you make the change.
