Windows 7 Starter

Just bought myself a HP Mini 2102 which comes with Win7 Starter. I installed CIV IV and when I got an run it I get the following note:

Civilzation 4 has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows and might not run as expected.

I am assuming that I am SOL and CIV 4 will not run on my netbook. I was hoping to have this loaded and be able to use in on flights. Any ideas? Thanks!

What version of Civ 4 do you have? Just plain Civ 4? Warlords and Beyond the Swords Expansions? Some sort of complete version?

Was it downloaded from an on-line retailer or installed from disc?

Have you patched the game? What patch is it currently at?

I'm not familiar with your HP Mini, but the game has been known to give these warnings particularly when not full patched. you may still be able to play OK.

THank you for the welcome and for the help! I have a full version of Civ 4 on disc and it says version 1. What patches would I need? I just installed the game yesterday so I have not updated it at all. Where would I go for that?

If it is just plain Civ 4, without the Warlords or Beyond the Sword expansions then you can download the final patch from the Civ Fanatics downloads database here.

Save the file to you computer and right-click on the .exe and select run as administrator.

If you have problems getting it to patch then patch to v1.61 from here first then try 1.74 again. When installing 1.61 again right click on the downloaded .exe file and select run as administrator.

you may want to patch to 1.61 before 1.74 anyway as it seems to be a more reliable way of patching rather than going straight to 1.74. It depends on whether the time to download the extra patch is important to you or not.

Interesting that the game runs at all as it does not run unless patched on Vista.
