Windows 7 ?

It depends on the version of Civ2 (classic, CiC, FW, MGE, ToT) and the Windows 7 architecture (32-bit or 64-bit). All versions of Civ2 will run on Windows 7 32-bit. See the Technical Support subforum.

Runs on mine, but only in the 32-bit folder.

OK, I have Civ2 CD and a Windows 7 64 bit laptop. Thus far I have been unable to INSTALL the program, much less run it. So how were you able to get it to run for you? What do you mean by 'only in the 32 bit folder'?

Professor Garfield, I followed your link to Civ2 on 64 bit OS. I am running the 16 bit version of Civ2 so I followed the advice you give in item 1a regarding Mastermind's patch.

I then downloaded Cedric's 5 part MGE patch conversion and followed the instructions therein (started Mastermind program, then start Civ2, etc)

Unfortunately, even after copying Cedric's files to my Civ2 directory, the program would not start, so I was unable to complete the patch process.

Try looking at subsequent posts in that thread. This link might work better.

I haven't actually used that particular option for running Civ 2.

The easiest way to get all versions of CIVII working properly is to run it in XP or 98. I run it on my win 7 in a virtual box where I run a win XP (didn't get the graphics acceleration right in win 98). "VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2. See "About VirtualBox" for an introduction.

Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, Macintosh, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4 and 2.6), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, and OpenBSD.
