Windows Crashes With Serious Error After Game Loads

Hi all, I've dug and dug and dug some more to try to find a fix for this, to no avail. Not sure if anyone can help, but I sure hope so.

For a while Civ4 and Civ4 Warlords were working fine, I stopped playing for a while and when I decided to start again a few months or so later, the games would start fine, and then when I picked all the game elements (map, civ, etc.), the game would begin to load everything, and as soon as it did it would automatically restart my computer. I downloaded and installed all patches with no change in the result.

(This also happens with other games like The Movies, and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, both of which also worked properly at one time. It seems now the only game that I can run is Out of the Park Baseball 2006+2007.)

I have attached a detailed summary of my system and these are the error messages I get when I disable auto-restart.

nv4_disp.dll-address BFB068D0 base at BF9D5000, datestamp 4684bf14"

Then when I restart I get the message that "Windows has recovered from a serious error."

as an update, I had originally thought this was a problem with only CD-Rom games, but downloading Sonic's RecordNow and installing and trying to run that causes the problem as well.

I know there are a lot of programs here that aren't CIV4, but I point in the right direction would be helpful. I've tried updating drivers for everything I can think of at this point.

I had downloaded the latest drivers and installed them, but they must not have installed correctly because when I did it the second time, it worked!
