Hi there,

I recently got a secondary computer (in addition to my Windows 7 32 bit machine which works amazingly) and I tried to install Civ 4 on it. The computer is a Gateway Intel Dual Core, 4GB of RAM, NVIDIA G210 running Windows Vista 64 bit. Anyway, the game initially installed just fine, but when I try to patch it, it gives me some crazy error message (0fff or whatever) and yells about a Kernel issue. Can someone tell me how I would be able to patch this sucker and get it working? I downloaded the patch manually and tried to install as an administrator but it gave me the same message. I'm assuming the kernel issue has to do with Vista x64 but for the life of me I can't figure out why it won't patch when others say it works beautifully on their 64 bit machine. The game installed perfectly on my Windows 7 machine (but it's 32 bits.)

Please - your help would be appreciated. I need the game at EVERY CORNER OF THE HOUSE! ;)

Hey,

Thanks for your help, and the welcome. This is really frustrating.

The game works fine upon initial install, which by default already includes patch 1.61. It is just Civ 4 proper, no expansions or anything. Like I said, the install worked fine on my 32 bit machines, including Windows 7 - my Vista 64 bit does not like it.

Here is the error message:

"An error (-5006 : 0x8000ffff) has occurred while running the setup. Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. If the error still occurs, please contact your vendor: Firaxis Games

Please help! lol. ;)

I'm getting the free upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit (I didn't realize that if you bought a Gateway PC between December and January you get a free Win 7 upgrade) so maybe that will fix it, although I doubt it. It would be nice to know what this error could possibly be.

Thanks...
