Has anyone ever won the deity level without any cheats? I have tried everything, maximum expansion, perfect cities, max warfare, max tech development, combination of all these, but still have never succeeded. What is your strategy?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but around 80% of the people here play and WIN on deity level. Even i myself do. And i do not regard this as a very high accomplishment since the AI is not a very worthy adversary.

You just have to keep at it, don't give up, and soon the Deity-AI will be at your feet.

Good luck.

magumi,

Welcome to Civ Fanatics,

Are you using Caravans to help build your Wonders & establish your
trade routes so that your Science & Income gets a boost?
Also are you using a SSC (Super science city )?
Here is a link to the War Academy, it helped us quite a lot.

click here for the War Academy

Also it may just be us but after playing the Americans for over a year,
we switched to the Sioux as we found that one of the spellings for moof
was ofom (the dog people Tribe orginally from the Ohio area).
Anyway it seems that the Sioux or at least the Purple Flaged Civ
havw an easier time so you might try a game as a purple flagged Civ.
Are you rush building ?

Find it easy enough to win at deity, though sometimes a shortage of good land makes it very tough.

I suggest building 30 or more cities, go to improved government as soon as possible (research monarchy ASAP, go to republic when you get Mike's Chapel), improve your land (irrigation and roads), build city improvements (temples, libraries, marketplaces, factories) and critical wonders (Mike's Chapel, Leo's Workshop, Hoover Dam), build trade routes, and avoid early war.

When you get bombers, spies, and armor, go over to Communist or Fundamentalist government and stomp those sucker AIs into dust. Or stay in Republic/Democracy (after you get Women's Suffrage) and build the space ship. Shouldn't be too tough if you can do all this. Make your first goal many cities while working on your second goal, monarchy. Try building Pyramids in your capital when you have a total of 3 cities. You'll need a temple or extra military units in the capital to keep it out of revolt while building Pyramids. If you're first to monarchy and get the Pyramids, and keep building cities, you should be able to kick butt even if there are many inefficiencies in your play. But then, I've been playing since the early days of Civ 1, so maybe I overlook some things.

After all the help you got from the first two posts, I'm not sure I need to add anything.

Take it in baby steps. Start off with the minimum setting for the Barbs, 3 players, large map. That should give you some time to get use to what the higher difficulty level does to you. You'll learn real quick that unhappiness is a major problem. Build a couple units to keep the peace while in Monarchy.

Expand quickly. Usually ever other unit should be a settler. Early on this does two things, it helps you get expanded quickly, and keeps your cities population low.

Try to build caravans and get happiness wonders (hanging gardens, oracle, Mich's chapel, etc) early on.

As Moof said, build caravans and deliver them; to your own cities if you have to. This gives you more money and science.

Also as Moof touched on, learn the art of rush buying units and use it always. This saves you valuable turns in the game.

The Ai is still the Ai, except now they get even better bonuses for building units and getting tech.

Use diplomats and spies to steal tech if you ever get too far behind in the tech race.

That should hopefully give you a good base to work off of. Learn the tricks of the game by looking through the War Academy that Moof pointed out, Odeo turns and the such can save you tons of agony in the game.

Good Luck!

P.S. Once you get a handle on the 'small' start, add more players and get use to the full amount of players before you add on higher difficulty levels of barbs.

Thanks for you advice. I do all these things, but still never make it. I play on a large map, with 7 civilisations and with Celts, and it seems to me that all other civs are too strong, somehow. Last time it took Americans 1 round to commence and finnish a wonder, when I send my armour against pikemen I loose, etc. Mind you, I always win at other levels.

Do you win on emperor?Pikes vs armor well if u have armor and they dont thats a good

U ever build barracks?I doubt that u always loose. But if u feel there too strong do what the duke said babysteps thats how we did and im sure after awhile you will be able to after awhile If u have specific problems post here and we'll try to help you.

magumi,

clear up a couple things please, are you playing only against the AI?

Are you playing to win by conquest or Spaceship?

Also when you said:
"Last time it took Americans 1 round to commence and finish a wonder"

this sounds like a human not the AI we play against.

If you are making a beeline to Monarchy as Allan_Nicoll stated,
& win at the other levels. Then as spycatcher34 said maybe you could list
the main problem or two that you feel are holding you back.

deity level so easy play romance of the 3 kingdoms and then you will know what difficulty is. it is at least 20 times harder than civ at deity level. L'Emperor is even harder than romance of the 3 kingdomss they much better in war stragety. Computer is at least half smart unlike the AI in civlization. IN civiliation you never had to worroy about loyalty.

I finally did it. Regardless of the fact I have never played a strategy game before it really felt a little bit frustrating that I was not able to win at the deity level even after almost two months of playing this game, but now I believe that I know the way. Thanks for your advice,

magumi

Yeah, congrats! It took me a year before I was able to win at Deity. Now, I win on a fairly regular basis.
