I got this using the Arabs on King difficulty.

Arabs start out with Religion and Fundamentalism government, which means you get +1 attack. For warriors, this is huge, because it practically doubles the attack rate! Another good thing is the free mathematics tech you get when you enter the medieval era (which occurs after 5 researched techs, not sure whether Religion counts as 1 though, I guess it does).

I founded Tripoli and put the workers on the tree regions. No science or food, just production. After 3 turns my first warrior is produced. I notice sea to the North of me so I go South. Two turns later my second warrior is done. I send him in pursuit of the first one. My first warrior defeats a barbarian village and my second warrior has caught up while my 3rd warrior is done. I see Madrid and let my 3rd warrior meet up with the others and I form an army. When my fourth warrior is done, I put the workers on sea regions for science. I want Writing and Irrigation as fast as possible!

On an adjacent hill, I attack Madrid and Spain is toast after 2 turns. I get Navigation! I set the workers to production again and produce archers for protection while the warrior scouts for more cities. When I produced my archer army, I set workers to sea regions and switch to gold in order to hit 100 gold for a free settler. I find Tokyo and a Japanese warrior gets me a great general! Tokyo falls in 3 turns. I got my free settler and found another city for production. Once I got the 100 gold, I switched to a galleon in Madrid and when I got Irrigation I started building an army of catapults. This was around 350BC, so 27 turns left to go.

I set my workers to production in Tokyo to build archers for protection. When the first one was done, I built a road to Madrid and sent the warrior ten regions away in just one turn (I love Civ Rev's roads). I got my archer army from Madrid, warrior army (+great general), catapult army and spy on board looking for the other two capitals. The archer army was going to protect the 4th capital while I was searching for the last one. The archer army from Tokyo went exploring looking for other civs.

The galleon met the Russians, the archers met the Mongols. I could disembark on a forest next to Moscow. After 2 turns it was mine. Catherine offered peace and I accepted (I would have offered it myself). In 550 I disembark next to Karakorum and 2 turns later I won at 650AD.

Tripli still at pop 3, Baghdad at pop 3, Madrid at pop 4, Tokyo pop 4. I didn't build buildings or settlers, just units for protection and exploring.

Congrats. I tried to do it with Africa, but I got rebuffed by those damn Greek hoplites. Up until then I was doing quite well, with 3 horseman armies and a warrior army. Did you find that you actually needed the protection from archers? Also did you manage to get to catapults?

In retrospect, I didn't need the archer armies. One archer would have been enough. I could have rushed one if I'd really needed it. One of the nice things about the Arabs is that they get mathematics when you enter the medieval age (so after researching 5 techs), so I could get catapults really early. I think I was very lucky to run into the Spanish and got Navigation. I don't think I could have reached the Russians in time without it.
