Winning the modern age without completing any of the projects

My last two games the modern age finished when it got to '100%' rather than me (or anyone else) completing one of the projects... i thought the point was you were supposed to do one of the final victory things to finish?

It's a bit of an anti-climax just winning on 'points', it doesn't give you much of a chance to finish, it ramps up to 100% really quickly when you start finishing the legacy paths.

You could try playing with long ages if you prefer more sandbox experience.

But if you really focus on any of the victory paths, you should be able to finish them way before point victory even on standard age length. The only exception is cultural victory, which could be unreachable within normal timeframe at highest difficulties if AIs actively pursue artifacts.

The only other possibility I can think about is that you could mess something with mods.

Every civ game has had a score/time victory, although it probably is easier to achieve in civ 7 than previous games. Hitting milestones for a lot of different victories will definitely reduce how much time you have, it's worth going for/beelining a specific victory to avoid that.

As of one of the very early patches, finishing legacy paths in Modern does not give age progress anymore. Only the earlier steps give 5/10 points each. As of one of the later patches, eliminating a leader in Modern also does not give age progress anymore. So, if you make progress in all paths, there should be 140 turns left (on standard speed/age length). Which should be more than enough time to complete a victory - twice. This can only reduced by repeatedly completing future tech/civic. And if you are doing that, why are you not completing a victory? (Well, ok, the AI might because of stupidity and that still counts as age progress...)

I thought milestones didn't add to modern era length. I remember it being one of the patch notes. I have never come close to a score victory.

I think my current game is going to be my first and only domination victory. If I don't hit score first. I'd like to see the score anyway, I wish they showed us.
