Without the Mids (SSE/WE Immortal wt)

I'd really like to see some of the saves to have a dig and see exactly where all the economy is coming from. It doesn't seem to show all the specialists fully in the screen shots.

How do you get your railroads so nice and neat? My games always have dirt road mixed with a little bit of railroad. I must know!

I really don't see how this is not going to work for the other leaders. for me the the most important thing about his strat is not that you can win without ever build cottages or lightbulb techs, it's to demonstrate the power of building a wonderville to get lots of great people and then settling them. so in that sense this strategy really works regardless of traits, and works fine combined with other strat like CE or SE. i've been using bits of Obsolete's strategy in my own games and I lvoe it. basically i just try to get as many wonder in my capitol/wonderville as i can and plant all the specialists in one place. a capitol with settled GP/GE/GS + cottages all around + running beauracracy simply kicks ass.

Lately I've been trying to modify my use of this strategy by planting the prophets away from the capitol, especially if I have a good production capitol, so I can put them all in my shrine+wall street city to get max benefit of the gold they produces. sure the Wall street come later in the game, but by doing so I can have two very good production cities instead of a single uber great one, which I like better. obviously having a shrine is not inline with what obsolete's doing, but i think that once again shows with some adaptation this strategy is a good complement to any play style. ok, maybe except the early warmonger types :P

tempuraki:

The practice of building selected Wonders for the generation of GPs for the purpose of settling them is nothing new nor unique to obsolete. I've done it myself many times over. obsolete kicks it up a notch by minimizing early City upkeep to focus exclusively on hammers and food, which he parlays into a concentrated Wonder/GP cycle. This is the reason why he hates Artists with a passion and can't use a whole lot of Scientists compared to Prophets and Engineers.

If you were using a normal SE economy, you wouldn't mind an Artist quite so much, you would still need to expand and build cottages, and you can benefit from other traits better.

Hey guys, a little update. My computer blew up. Not only did I lose my motherboard, but the HD also got corrupted. I purchased a new comp today, but will see if it's possible to salvage my HD. I was hoping to connect it with the new one, but seems the new HD's don't even use ribbon cable anymore! I thought just maybe I could be able to move some files over, despite that HD is non-bootable now.

Anyway, I'll still try to see what I can salvage. The only good thing in all of this, is I'll now have 3gigs of ram if I ever play Civ IV again.

See what happens when you don't build the Pyramids. Boom.

There are people who specialize in extracting data from HDs, you could take it there and have the information transfered to disc.

Guess that's the end of the walkthrough.

You may be able to get the data off with a USB to IDE(ribbon) cable. I've seen them at local shops for about $20, and that's what they're running at Newegg. It basically turns your old HD into a bulky flash drive. Here is a link to an example that will also work with SATA drives - which is the new type that you have installed so if you run into the same problem down the line it can help you out then as well.

Alright guys, I’m back again. It’s been a while so here is an update.

I got a new computer, and was able to hook up my older HD to it, even though the new HD cables are all different again. And while I can’t boot up from that HD anymore, I can at least READ data from it, so I was able to salvage some shots, etc.

BTW, since everything is vista these days, I am having a LOT of problems with my other games trying to get them to work. This compatibility thing just doesn’t WORK. And the fact that Vista is in beta after all this time doesn’t make things any better. Oh well, maybe I’ll have Civ IV running again next month. But no promises.

Part 9 -- The Final Chapter…

1944

Oh well, here we go, time to start off some payback with a BANG! Nice capital of pop 19 ready to get nurfed here.

We’re actually going to have things very easy here, because the civs are all aggressive on the other continent, that makes them the most stupid. They’ll be totally lagging in tech and we’ll be able to pounce all over them with impunity. In fact, we’ll probably never have to worry about the SDI defense. Which means… lots & lots & lots of big bangs, all hitting home 100%

We also popped a GE. Now, we DID have the option to construct the mining inc, but I believe I didn’t even bother. I’m not a fan of corporations because they are nerfed by all the good civics.

Very interesting… you see what’s coming? Somebody is ready to do a multiple amphibious invasion. I don’t’ know why, as we have Khan so outmatched in power. Well, raw nuke power beats raw unit power doesn’t it? Ok, lets ask him for peace and see what happens…

Hmm… I think he said no. Oh well, just move units out of other cities and warp them into the border cities through the rail roads. Now let the stupid AI attack and kill off its units, you won’t even have to do anything.

Khan just raped himself attacking the cities, and now suddenly wants peace.
LOL.

Ok let’s agree to it and get…

Wow, now we get to make peace with Monte, and he gives us the City of Seol!

Great, maybe I can take all the cities one by one through nuclear force, without even physically shipping any units over there?

Note:: I think we really screwed up our chances for a happy relationship, by the look of all the red mods.

A close look at the nice city I was awarded. Two wonders, but unfortunately they are useless to me at this stage of the game. Sigh….

There is good news though, I am coastal so I wont have culture pressure from ALL angles. Also this where I am going to introduce my….. drum roll please…. Obsolete’s PillBox Strategy!

Now, what is Obsolete’s PillBox strategy? Simple… We are going to play a WWI defensive war, while defending a fort or city, or forested hill with supped up units specialized for that defense. And we are going to mow down mass units of the AI, with only minimal defending units of ours.

Now, start airlifting your units over, one a turn. Make it a double city garrison unit, but don’t forget to MIX the units. Once you have a small stack fortified they’ll be ready for action.

DON’T FORGET A MEDIC!

Khmer wants peace. Well of course he does! He just sent a huge stack to take over my newly gifted city. And I dropped a few more nukes right on that stack. Totally obliterated it.

Oh well, lets agree to peace for now and get.. ANOTHER CITY! Errm..

1 more Pillbox of mass-destruction coming up…

Welp.. Here’s the location of the new city to garrison.

Keep unleashing hell.

And make sure you don’t lose the pillboxes, keep reinforcing them if you happen to lose a few too many defenders.

Just look at all that fallout. We’ve crippled the AI so bad.

Note: I don’t think the city A.T. in the top left will last long surrounded by that culture pressure, but Monte need not worry. The game will be over before it flips to my vassal.
