Hey All,

This is my first time on the Civ Fanatics boards, and also the first Civ game that I've ever played. It seems great and all, until you get going, and every turn nearly crashes my computer. Now, I certainly don't have the fastest computer around, I bought it for college 4 years ago and its been serving me just fine ever since. The specs are:

Pentium 2.4
1.0 G of DDR PC2100 RAM
GeForce 4 Ti4200 64 Mb graphics card..

I could post the rest of it in a dxdiag fashion, but I don't really think that too much matters aside from this. I just updated the graphics drivers on my vid card yesterday to the newest one which NVidia put out, so I know that isn't the issue.

My main problem not only stems from the game slowing down, but whenever I play a single player game and build a wonder, it completes, and the movie crashes my computer... the entirety of it, not just the program, every time. Can anyone help me out here? I'm not sure if I'm the only one who has this problem or if its a little more widespread. If so, why isn't a patch out? Anyway, any help would be appreciated!

I am having the exact same issue, I hope someone answers this posting and can help me, I have been trying for a week. I will keep trying, if I figure it out, I will post it here.

No one seems to have kept a count of all those who experienced (& reported) this problem, but there are a number of threads.
The simple work-around to kill the in-game movies in the civilization.ini file.
Scooter your vid card is a little dated. I've got a FX 5900 w 128MB. It ran OK using old nv drivers (31.something) - even the wonder movies, but after a few wonders it would start the CTD. I've since done a fresh install, updated to nv 71.89 (some report prblms w the latest version) & now the wonder movies stutter badly (go figure).
You can run the movies independently of Civ4 using the free radtools from radgametools.com, but it's a poor substitute for the dramatic experience it was intended to be.
I put the game aside hoping something would shake out with the 1.52 patch.
I'm not too hopeful that the next/last patch will solve the problems & have just about resigned myself to the idea that "we've been had".
And now a word from the fanboys .....

The simplest work around is to turn off the wonder movies by opening the Civ4.ini config file and changing "nomovies" from 0 to 1.

Fogive the n00b here, but where is that file located at? I'm getting the same issues --crashing every time the wonder movie plays.

There's a shortcut to it in Program files/Firaxis games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4. Just click on that.
