Wonders disappearing

My playstyle involves rapidly building as many wonders as possible.
I also read every single notification that pops up, and keep them as map highlights until I address the problem, or if they are especially concerning like natural wonders I just leave them in my notification queue forever, so I can auto flip through them later.

Anyway,
on my last playthrough I tried to build every single wonder in the game, pretty tough, but only one civilization managed to out-build me on the Jebel Barkal. (I received the "you didn't build Jebel Barkal in time." along with "Another civilization has built Jebel Barkal!")

As it so happens, I continuously got other notifications on failures to build: Great Lighthouse. Kotoku-in. Petra.
BUT NO OTHER CIVILIZATION HAD BUILT THEM

Was this because, perhaps:
{
1} I was too forward in time (era)?
Or is it a
{2} bug?

Please help, thanks.

I think they were built and conquered, simple as that! Most likely burnt down.

If that's the case, should I not have still received a notification that another civilization has completed _(wonder)_? Just as I received the notification on the Jebel Barkal?
That's the source of my confusion: if other civilizations are building these wonders, and I never go through a turn without reading every single notification, and the game is always updating the players on the building of wonders, then what am I missing when wonders cancel but there is no notification of foreigners building them?
I don't delete wonder built notifications. I have 4 cancelations and only 1 "foreign civ built wonder." That's 3 unexplained cancelations.

I had something weird happen to me after the patch before this one. Wonders disappearing without trace. Like, me actually in the process of building the wonder and then... poof, it just stops building but there is no mention of it in the tooltips that any other civ has built them.

It was very strange. It's happened in a couple of games of mine but most seem to work as intended. Not sure if it's related to your thing.

I haven't played with the patch yet, so can't comment on any new potential bugs, but...

I'm curious as to what you mean by map highlights.

I don't think so. I've seen wonders like the Colossus get built in the medieval era...

Tbf, I was more thinking like atomic or modern era, not the era right after the wonder comes into play.

AFAIK wonders only "disappear" with later era starts. Else you can build them as long as no one else has done so.
I would rather think this was a bug with a notification for "finished wonder x" not showing up - so nothing too serious in my book.

I think this is the answer:
The game stops giving you notifications after ancient era wonders. I looked in a bunch of places in other google searches, and someone reported that "I stopped getting notifications, but I ended up finding other civs with the wonders that I was building, so the game just doesn't notify you." That's a paraphrase. So basically the game just stops giving you "wonder built!" notifications. That's fine but I wish it were said specifically somewhere in the manual or something, so that I wouldn't get so confused.
Also what I meant by map highlights is that if you left click on the notifications, it will zoom in on the map to where the important thing is. So I never delete a notification (right click on it) until I'm finished assigning my civilization to take care of the important event. Like for example, if it's a village: I'll keep the notification until I assign a unit to sweep it up. If it's a wonder: I'll keep it forever. If it's a wonder built: I'll keep it forever. If it's "unmet civ destroyed" I won't left or right click it because both deletes it and I love to give city states back to their original owners.

I've received notification for post-ancient era Wonders.

For anyone being a Wonders racer, there are good ways to enhance your control over most situations.

-- Astog's MORE LENSES mod is a must have.. as its Wonders layer is an extraordinary source of facts. Before or after i even attempt these big projects, i always verify the world stage to detect if any AI has already started working on my target.
-- As long as you kept exploring the map (Scouts & Missionaries, etc).. you will have direct vision over the 3d Models of such Wonders when they stand outside the FOW. The building process follows the structural cycle and can indicate if they are near to completion.
-- Gossip stack is a steady reliable feedback system of "X has started building Y!". Keep watch.. take note.

Then, comes the Race where i can get better odds with timely Chops, Trade routes off that city, etc.

Secondly.. i'm planning to issue a spreadsheet guide of some kind that reveals the AI bias towards specific Wonders (Picked from the Leaders.XML)! (Refer to the attached file)

...Hmm, my guess:
Do you send delegations (allowing Level 1 Diplomatic Visibility)?

No. I'm getting them without even any notification of who's building them. Just that they've been built.

Does the notification popup occur if at the same time you get the notification through diplomatic visibility?

I find those popups dissapear before I have a chance to read it.

Mine appear on the side bar beside a little icon of the Pyramids, and stay until I dismiss them (or possibly the end of turn - I usually read them and dismiss them after they appear). I need to hover the pointer over the icon to have the message pop out showing which wonder has been built. If I have met the civ that built it, it will tell me who built it, otherwise "unmet player". I know I get these messages throughout the game, for both met and unmet players. Obviously I can't tell if 100% of the wonders are announced, but I do get them for unmet players building later era wonders.

I got this many times, since a while(before latest patches). The column of messages from the right contains an icon indicating which wonders are built, whatever if you found civs or not. And in some cases i was building a wonder and suddenly the construction is interrupted without any reasons(and the icon isnt showing that wonder built).

But since the latest patch i havent seen anything suspicious(note that i'm not a big wondermonger :D).

About that "Wonders Racing" reference spreadsheet i mentionned earlier.
So far so good!
Here's the current ODS file (OpenOffice) that holds the basic data & shows how the structure presents the information(s). I still have to fill in some of the R&F facts into it -- but their suggested Wonders should come from ZigZag's Guides when he put those files on Steam.

Once everything is ready and completed.. i'll probably create a Civ-Fanatics thread/guide.

Wonder notifications seem to only notify a little fraction of all wonders. Most wonders are built without being notified to others. But of course, other's construction disappears as soon as the wonder is built.

I've noticed this too, long before the recent patch. I'm pretty sure it's a bug: someone, somewhere has built the wonder and the notification hasn't popped for whatever reason. It's pretty annoying, especially when you've been gearing up to build a wonder and then when you come to start it it's not an option.

In my last pre-patch game, this happened with the Pyramids. Originally it was completed by an AI before I could start working on it. For the sake of experimentation, I reloaded and started building it earlier. I did get the notification when it was completed and I had the leftover production, but not the actual wonder built notification.
