Wonders Don't Generate Culture?

When I conquered a city containing both the Great Wall and the Hanging Gardens, I found that they do not generate culture. (They were obsolete at the time) Is this a bug, or is it supposed to happen? The Great Wall was generating gold for being a tourist attraction.

they are just relics. they won't give you any benefit. so erase the city if you like.

Wonders actually do create Culture points and yes they maintain thier value if you capture them going off the orginal civ 3 witch is what i play . Only after certian research was invented would the affects of wonders become obsulete . eg Gunpowder stops the affect of the Great Wall . Small wonders do contribute some cultral points but not as many , however for them beeing destroyed when you conqure a city ill have to double check .

Captured wonders do give the bonus from the wonder, but no culture.

Just wondering if you give a city with a Great wonder in to another nation thats fine but if its got a small wonder in does it get destroyed ?

yeah it gets destroyed because no civ can have 2 of the same small wonders.

I think captured obsolete great wonders can still generate the tourist attraction bonus

Yes they do. I captured an Incan city with the Pyramids and it was generating gold.

Basically, when you capture a city with a wonder, you do not get culture from it, but you do get all the benefits (in the case of the Pyramids for example, you get a granary in your cities on the continent)... Unless it is an obsolete wonder (for example the Great Library long after Education was discovered), then you don't get anything.

As for the Small Wonders, they are destroyed like all cultural buildings when the city changes hand, be it by war or by gift.

The gold increase you probably had is because with the Pyramids, you no longer pay for the maintenance of the granaries you have in your other cities. That is why you get more gold.

May be after 1000 years that you have captured the wonder, you may get some culture, or tourist attraction. Will keep an eye on that since i just razed an entire civ that had 4 wonders in different cities ;-)

Captured wonders will provide the tourist attraction bonus as if you had built it yourself (in the year that the enemy civ built it), but will never generate culture. If the AI captured a city with a wonder from you, and you recapture it, you will still get the culture (but you'll have to wait 1000 years for the doubling bonus, I believe).
