Hello!

I've read the War Academy articles and the forum posts regarding the wonders that double the science rate of a city (Copernicus, Newton, SETI) and seen that they are said to double the BASE science rate, not being cumulative in nature.

However, in my latest 20K Emperor game, I built Copernicus and Newton in the culture city and the difference between it and the capital is astonishing (both having libraries and universities built).

Thus, I wonder if the 100% increase in science relates to the base science rate or is cumulative with the library and university increase. I've provided screenshots of the culture city and the capital. :D

Your 20K city has so many beakers because it has so much commerce. It has a lot more commerce for 3 reasons. First, it has more citizens, so more tiles are worked. Second, each tile produces more commerce because of the Colossus. Third, you get a lot of income from your tourist attractions (especially the Colossus and the Great Lighthouse).

The wonders just double the base rate. By comparing taxes with Constantinople (22 vs. 6 coins), we can see that Adrianople would have a science output of about 200 beakers if it only had the library and university.

You're quite correct CKS. Tourist income is added to the base income before multipliers are considered. Also note that whilst wonders may become obsolete, tourist income is never lost.

I posted this a while back showing how the commerce is generated in a super science city. It may help understand how things work.

The Colossus's commerce bonus does expire, but it expires with flight, not astronomy. This is why the Colossus is a great wonder to have in a science city.

You can clearly see in the screenshots that the Colossus bonus is still in effect.

That is one reason why I have set all of the Wonders in the game not to expire when I edit it. I am not sure why the game has that Commerce bonus expire. Most of the Wonders were generating tourist revenue from very early.

The Colossus wonder expires, or so I hypothesize, because having a very tall statue doesn't seem so impressive when you have planes that can fly above it. Thus, people don't flock to the city where it resides as much, and thus there exists less commerce in the city prior to flying machines. Of course, old buildings still impress the civs, so tourist income still exists.
