Won't Read The Disk...

Hi, I just got Civ4 today from Amazon, popped it in my disk drive (which then whirrs a bit and stops) and it simply will not read the disk. It's as if there's nothing on it. And I can't prompt anything to come up.

I checked my specs again, and I'm not sure what I'm missing (I don't really understand video and graphics card). This is a brand new PC:

Windows XP Media Center Edition (with Service Pack 2).
2.21GHz Athlon processor.
1GB RAM.
Over 100GB of free space.

Is it possible my disk drive isn't fast enough/good enough to run/read the disk? And how would I check I have the appopriate graphics/video cards?

I play PC games (CivIII, Football Manager, etc) and DVDs on it fine, so I suppose it could be a problem with the disk?

Any help would be great.

try it in someone elses computer, i got a new dvd recently that my dvd drive just spits out, yet it works fine in dvd player and ibook.

your drive might just be a *****.

Yes, but I need to install it on my PC. Not someone else's. (0_o)

Do I need a special drive for DVD-ROMs or something, as opposed to CD-ROMs (which are working fine)?

Well, if you're playing movies (DVDs) on your PC, I assume you have a DVD drive, not just a CD drive.

When the disk is in the drive, can you use Windows Explorer (or My Computer) to browse to it and see any files listed?

I have this exact problem. I was glancing through this forum looking for an answer, and saw this thread. I had hoped there was already and answer, buyt alas...

Anyway, my problem is exactly the same as Kraigy's, although I definitely have a DVD drive - I've played Civ 4 for many hours already. My system: a 3.6GHz Intel IV, 1GB Ram, and a NVidia GeForce 6800 card.

I just tested my DVD drive with two DVD movies, and another game. All of them work fine. I put in my Civ disc, which worked fine yesterday, and nothing. I browse to the DVD drive through My Computer, and it's as if there's nothing there at all. If I try to open the game it will - no surprise - say there is no disc.

Help!!
