Won't recognize Disc

My computer won't recognize the disc! I just bought the game, I stick in the disc and it won't recognize it, it says please insert a disc? Any help?

do you see the disc contents in windows explorer?

nothing, it won't read the disc at all. My desktop computer running the same o/s Vista, it works just fine, just not my laptop?

does it read other discs? this sounds more like a drive problem if it works on other computers than a disc problem...

every other disc works fine including warlords and civ4 original, its just bts, both discs 1 and 2

weird - there are some errors regarding the safedisc function, i.e. after installing when you want to play that it does not recognize the disc, but not seeing it at all is new.
Do you have the possibility to transfer the contents of the disc from the desktop to your laptop (e.g. a usb memory stick or the like) so you could run the install from the harddrive..

Is the CDROM drive in your laptop a plain vanilla variety or DVD? BTS requires a DVD drive.

I too am having the same issue. I tried all the suggestions already mentioned, but my computer still doesn't recognize the disk.

I had the problem where after I installed it it wouldn't reconize the disc. I was running Vista and I had set the compatibility to XP, so when I didn't set the compatibility to anything, it ran fine.

I'm running XP. Everything was working fine until my laptop ran out of batteries and forced quit every program, including the Beyond the Sword (I was playing it at the time).

I updated the driver for my CD-Rom, again, and now my computer will recognize the disc. However, nothing happens when I click "Play".

I tried running Civ4BeyondSword_Pitboss, and I get flooded with errors. What could this possibly mean?

pitboss is not for single players - unless you want to hose your own mp games, don't use it. Does it give errors when you try using the normal .exe?

Nothing happens when I use the normal .exe. The only time I get any activity is when I insert the disc into the CD-Rom, but it never plays the game when I click on play.

could you check if the log folder contains anything? the one in the BtS directory.

ok so it tries starting and fails at this.
when you open the windows taskmanager - is there a civ or bts application running? if so force quit it and try starting again. If not I fear you'll need to reinstall
