Won't start after patch

Well, my game patched on Steam and started to load. The part with the old man came up and then I got an error message. I didn't think anything of it and clicked it closed. Now I can't even get the game to start. I get to the screen where I select which directx version i want to play, but nothing happens after that point. I've restarted the computer and still nothing. I'd love to get this resolved soon since I bought it for my son as a surprise. I tested it out the last couple nights and there were no issues. I was going to try a huge map to see if it worked right now, but nada. Anyone else have similar issues?

Same thing happened to me just now.

Tried restart.

Tried reinstall from disk- it looks like its going but then I'm stuck on

"Validating Steam files 0%"

for 15 minutes now

Went ahead and tried a total reinstall after copying a few choice savegames to another folder.

Relatively painless, validation worked nice.

If I don't come back and edit, then I'm happily playing so I recommend this fix.

I do expect some oddities with games save prepatch from what Ive been reading.

Thanks, Perry! One question. I'm new to Steam. Do I just uninstall what I've got on my harddrive now and log in to Steam and re-install the game? Do I only get to install the game a set number of times? I'd hate to "waste" one of my installs if it's not really my fault. Thanks again for your help.

The number of installs is in no way limited (one of the advantages of Steam in contrast to other services).

In case anyone else checks this thread--Uninstall the game from Steam before attempting to reinstall from disk.

Steam:
Libraries, right click CiV , Properties > Delete Local Content.

I'm having the same problem that Luca is having. My screen alternates between grey and black a few times, then I either get a message that Civ V has stopped working or I get a Blue Screen and have to restart my PC. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Civ V twice. I'm not terribly computer savvy, but I've attached the dxdiag info that I could find on my computer. Please let me know if you need more information.

Luca: Please update your graphics card drivers, they are outdated.

yoyodyne: Your graphics card is below the minimum specs. Have you been able to run the game before the patch?

Yes. I had no problems before the update (I've played just under 500 hours).

mmhh...you're on Win7.
If you use the DX11 mode, then please use DX9.
And turn down your graphics settings. Everything above low should be too much for your card.
If this already happened...mmhh...is it possible that you make a screenshot of the problem?

When I try Dx9, it opens as a window, I get as far as seeing the 2K logo, then it goes to a black full screen, then back to a window, then I get the screen that I've attached a shot of.

Could you please look in your Civ V game directory (where the EXE is located) and post any recent .mdmp files that showed up there?

I found the .mdmp files, but I can't open them nor can I upload them on here. Do I need a special program to convert them to something viewable?

Hi,

my installation works fine before last patch is installed by steam.
Now => black screen. No loading, nothing.
Task uses one processor up to 100% anytime. Memory usage is standing still (task manager) If i break with windows taskmanger i ll see a loadingscreen ^^ and then its over...

reinstallation, deleting all files bye steam and manually don't work...
