Working Mana Nodes

So any thoughts on this from the team? re: giving some benifit from working a mana node?

I would rather have the mana nodes effect their surroundings than apply a commerce change. Let me see if I can get a few effects into 0.14 and we can see how they play out.

K, I played with it and decided to do both, I checked in some environmental effects from nodes and added the +1 hammer and +2 commerce for each node.

Im actually on the fence about it but I think Wilboman and Chalid are very much for it.

Seems like the environmental effects are a little too different, and some are beneficial while others aren't. It might be too much of a hassle to balance all that out for the benefit of the AI... I guess I'm on the fence about it, too. Might I suggest the earth nodes making hills and mountains instead of metalic resources? A gold or gem pop is pretty big...

This isn't entirely on topic with the thread, but especially now that mana node improvements are providing more & possibly changing game mechanics I think it would be MUCH better if nodes could only be created by adepts+ and not by workers.

The speed at which you build a node doesn't really matter, but allowing workers to create nodes doens't make much sense to me and also means you don't have to build any adepts+ until you connect all your nodes and they come out stronger.

Then the AI wont built nodes anymore or very rarely...

I've always considered the lack of city benifit for mana nodes to be the price of power, so I just accepted them as they were. I had originally thought that benefits based upon their flavour would be nice, but considering the AI limitations I think the proposed environmental changes are a wonderful alternative. Great thinking, Kael!

So... want to enlighten us on the details or do we have to wait? Will the environmental effects make us want to build nodes near cities, or keep them as far as possible (seeing which nodes got those effects added), or both?

1 Hammer and 2 Commerce for each of them. As a test the fire node turns all tiles within 1 into deserts, entropy creates fallout and nature creates forests.

Would that include the mana node's tile as well? It would be nice for elves to be able to defend those nature nodes using their tree-climbing skills.
