My WB won't start. It just stays on the opening screen whenever I try to open it. What's going on?

Same with me!! i wonder why? Also it launches the regular game when i do i:confused:

I have the same problem with the worldbuilder opening and not displaying any menu buttions. I sent email to 2k games support but no reply (5 days ago) placed same issue in two other forums, no replies. I fear either no one knows what the cause is or it is not worth the time unless this happens to more people.

I'm also unable to get Worldbuilder to start. I've called tech support and as of yet gotten no reply. I've detailed the error in a CivFanatics thread and a 2K Games thread (where I was told a response would be posted when the error is solved). Basically, the error is:

Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException
Source: WorldBuilder
Thread: Main Thread
Description: Could not load file or assembly 'PresentationFramework, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=XXXXXXXX' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

The other SDK tools work fine. People who have gotten similar errors from the other SDK tools have talked about registry edits (here), but I have found that my registry looks very different than the one they are describing.

Are you guys getting the same error message? It would at least be nice to know that I'm not the only one.

hyacinth, PresentationFramework is one of the .NET Framework libraries. Check to see if you have .NET 3.0 installed on your computer.

Solved.

Well, at least I haven't had any trouble for about 24 hours now. The problem was definitely in the .NET installation, which, although I did install it, was somehow troubled. I followed the instructions on this blog post, and was able to fix the missing/borked files.

If anyone gets any errors similar to this, the likely culprit is a bad/incomplete .NET installation.

I had the same problem, where I'd start the world builder and the logo would appear without any menu options.

I downloaded the .NET 3.0 thingy and the moment it was finished installing the menu buttons appeared in the world builder.

Kudos guys!

same here. No buttons. I have .net 4.5 and i've tried switching of 4.5 and reinstalling of net3 but it doesnt work. Just a flash screen of the world editor logo. I was going to attempt to import a Europe map with true starting locations. mad eh?

...and here I am again.. standing in a crowd of like minded people looking up for answers and recieving none. Internet error forums are like a weird religion now. A crowd of people with questions staring at the sky hoping against logic for some kind of help with our problems.

I've been playing Civilisation since the first one on the Amiga and have gotten sadly used to publishers releasing bugged to f*** games to make money in the intent of releasing a patch later. This goes against the sale of goods act here in the UK as the program is unfit for purpose in a lot of ways. Well I'm done.

I'm finished with spending hours looking for answers on forums be it here, 2k, or steam. I waste enough of my life gaming and I just can't justify it to myself. Civ 5 is by far the most bugged, biased, unplayable, memory suck piece of rubbish have ever seen. Sid meier deserves a slap for putting his name to something which is sold incomplete and damaged.

There are only 3 ways I will return to Civ:
1-The next version is (by and large) BUG FREE
2-The game comes with real world maps of all sizes with all the relevant nations in their true starting locations (I mean, omitting Spain?? but including Soskia? unreal) why have a map of Europe to play on when Rome starts in Norway? Have a word with yourself ffs.
4-stacking. I dont want to see a city fire arrows hundreds of miles to an enemy nearby. or to leave catapults vulnerable. Thats not how armies work/ed.
5-Memory suck. I have a reasonably good pc and civ 5 just eats memory for no apparent purpose, oh, and give the ability to skip the intro movie and game start without going into code. dumb.
6-release mods if you like, but dont leave it upto the fan base and then warn youre not responsible. Give NO maps to the game (and I wont buy it) OR Release loads with an in game editor that can be trusted... By providing nothing you're leaving it up to the community to write games for you and leaving newcomers open to further bugging their game.
7- stop squeezing your customers with DLC or carry a warning on the box or download image (Caution: NOT THE FULL GAME)
8-More official scenarios please. especially tested ones.
9- I miss the video parliament from civ2
(yes I said '3' points but I got carried away)
10- a fine shakespearean actor he may be, but don't use the same voice over guy. He has the lung capacity of a bag of skittles.

Things I liked: the map style. Policies.

I dont expect anyone involved in the money squeezing next version of civ to even see this but I've had my vent.

Feel free to take this personally and backlash. :)
