world builder?

Nah just used the earth maps supplied by Firaxis and whacked down Civ/CS start locs. Didn't bother with resources, I don't have a month sitting there ensuring the resources are in the right spot, I've got a million mods I want to get out there and should be doing them. :p

I just tried the map (I was finally able to download it, though I am still getting the same BIT error when trying to download others). Do I have to check the scenario button, because I didn't when I loaded it (it appeared to default me to Babylon) and it still loaded the map randomly. As Rome, I started in Siam/Cambodia.

Is it possible to specify starting locations by player number (e.g., "player 1 starts at this location, no matter what empire they choose")? I'd like a map where I can have the same starting point, no matter what empire I play. (Single player cheater here... :-P)

Also, where would one find the city-state tech tree? I've heard they have a different tech tree, and would love to see what they have.

Seriously , the couple people on here who are making maps should share the world builder with us!!!! my fun is ruined not having a worldbuilder. please if you have it post it.

...they can't? They were beta testers - and the tools are covered by their NDA/whatever and/or are locked via Steam.

Cheers, LT.

it'll be like another 6-7 days probably. Just be patient, though I have to admit not having it is seriously nerfing the fun out of it. Some of these map scripts are terrible.

I miss scenarios. In cIV even the vanilla had some mods and scenarios available if the standard game didn't catch that day. Now in the third day of playing I'd want to see some sort of a scenario (anything from Roman conquest to WW2 really), or at least the ability to start scetching one on a world map.

It's a bit silly isn't it. They spend half a year advertising unimaginable moddability, showcase awesome modding tools, and then you have to wait without any real sight on when they deliver.

/rant off

without any real sign of when they deliver?

They said on the official forum they will release it next week

Be patient,that's all ! ;)

Well, what day, for which market / zone, what GMT, etc? :-)

Point still stands. They advertise for months, shout "awesome" non stop, but at the end of the day there still is nothing. On the contrary, what I read on 2K's forums it seems the toolset is not even finished yet for release. Now that is a huge divide between marketing and reality. Past two years I've seen enough of that in this industry, I had not expected it from Firaxis.

Maybe it is a sore point to make, but hey, I was sold on the moddability.

Don't mix up things. I'm not making it sound like "they" screwed up. First you need to establish whether the release was both succesful, whether the delivery was succesful, whether the followup for each is or looks to become succesful, and more of that. After that you can look at who make mistakes where. In a few months that may be an idea to do. But on this topic, moddability, yes the absence of the modding tools is in light of all the marketing a miss.

Im just looking at how the concept of awesome moddability was introduced, presented, marketing and delivered. And yes, there's a fair few major gaps in there. I'm sure that over time they will smooth it out, but considering you can see that both developers and publisher have gone to great lengths to prepare a foundation for DLC as well as a community foundation for product continuity it is fair to say that particularly the current gap between promisses and reality is substantial.

Don't get me wrong here. I do think it'll all work out. But in this industry you have to be very careful when walking the line of almost institutionally relying on a community foundation element while simultaneously aiming for commercially delivering on that.

Honestly, the MOD browser and infrastructure sure it has its initial issues, but considering the state of delivery (CIV as an application of casual gaming concepts, but this is a debate on its own) that was to be expected. But that should have been compensated by following the marketing and capitalising on the delivery of the modding tools. It's a miss. Which is a shame, but not exactly like a volcano blowing up. But it does get in the way, and it does affect perception.

I understand your point of view
Anyway you could be a little more patient with them
They said in the manual (released earlier) : the modding tools will be available soon after the release
At the moment, you can't tell that it's false
If they release it in 3 months you should complain
I wait for these tools as much as you,but i am more patient than you, that's the point

Is it possible to have a transparant picture of example the World Map that you can build your terrain on in the world builder? That would make it sooooo much easier.
