World Congress Ban

I'm in deep crap!

World Congress is going to vote in 5 turns, and suddenly I see they are going to ban wine. Seven out of ten AI's will vote for to ban it as it's immoral (from what I can tell).

My entire economy is based on wine (well--75 percent).

What do I do?

This. Plus no need to get panicked. You can get wine unbanned in the next congress meeting if you want to, don't forget to bribe other leaders to do your bidding.

Update: It passed. Freakin' England had FOUR votes and carried the day. It only affected my happiness, and I only lost half of it. So I'm down to 15 happiness. Most of the other AI's voted "nay," but England had four delegates! How are the number of delegates figured?

Oh--I'm playing Venice/Prince/Standard.

My gold is still about 100 a turn or so.

Also--England is the chairperson of World Congress.

How do I get revenge? For now, I've asked for an embargo, but if Liz rules the thing, I think I need to try something else.

I'd really like to win this game. Venice is so powerful and I'm starting to figure out BNW.

Use your spies as diplomats in other civ's capitals. By doing so you unlock the ability to bribe the civ into voting a certain way. You could pass your proposal like this.

I had a similar problem, but was easily solved since all the Civs I exported to voted against. A few extra votes bought off neutral Civs, and I was good as gold.

I also really love the whole economics vs. ethics of banning things. While actively attempting to halt the ban for the greater good of my nation and my people, it never once crossed my mind that the rest of the world might be better off without alcohol. Very interesting, to see potential psychology behind bans.

Did you not trade away your wine before the vote and did you try to bribe to change votes? Are you going to work at getting it repealed, which includes bribing votes?

^^I've tried bribing, but it does no good. Liz now has FOURTEEN delegates. She has more delegates than everyone else combined.

Now I'm embargoed thanks to her!. I'm still making 120 GPT, but happiness down to 3. I was over 30 prior to this disaster.

And I was already trading my wine before this happened.

And can someone explain the musician great people? I have about a half-dozen of them. How do I use them????

When each era changes the game tells you exactly how the delegates are determined, the numbers vary slightly but it basically is these factors

congress leader
wonders like forbidden palace
number of city state allies

and thats about it. City states get more valuable as the eras go by.

Steal Elizabeth CS allies using MoV or bribing those CS to become your ally. You can also try to use coup.

Get diplomats in other civs and bribe them to vote against it. Shouldn't cost too much since the resolution is only a resource ban, unless you pissed them off.

It is true there was prohibition but it didn't stop people from consuming wine. What would be needed is the inclusion of black markets ?

No it don't stop them from drinking it but you can't sell it to people on open marked (that means you) so that is the reason why you not earn money

imo World congress needs tuning, right now it is this

everyone loves the fair, to much

random ban of a luxery ressource, f they not have it the ai auto say yes

when election come everyone elect themself (looks ridicelous)

what bother the heck out for me that there is always 2 cases and you can just throw in fair when you want to win the other case 100% as ai for some reason go full out yes on fair

"YEAH what world fair all in, what was the other option? unban unclear warheads? OK I DONT CARE" and yes I did this ingame and that fair become quite a colorfull event...

I rather wish they did have a "inside" and "outside" for more deep system , they gave benefits by joining it but needed to follow what everyone says. it ridicelous silly you need to listen to mr colombus because he found everyone first in a game of hide and seek but he is the weakest (yet can't kill him because he hide on the other side of the world) behind warmonger gandhi like a spoiled brat

there could be a option to go against the probhition atleast, it would make other hate you and refuse to trade that ressource.
