World History Mod development thread

@moopoo: that is correct, if this is what you would like to do. I would give you an excel template/map and an idea of how to use it. All North/South American civs, minus the modern ones, are done.

@grishnash: thank you, if I must I will take you up on your offer of African assistance. A lot of the segments do not require mod knowledge, for example, as you said, history/events, settler maps, etc. And of course, as you said your "moral support" is what is appreciated the most!

Kevin

Okay, another update - it's still a nogo on the compilation issue, which is pissing me off. Whatever. If anything, I'll send code to one of you guys or to a friend and have them compile.

Anywho: Looking at your requests for the Pact features, I think I've come up with a few ideas that should be relatively easy to code. Let's say I have a Defensive Pact with Sitting Bull, and Monty declares war on him.

Currently, I automatically declare war on Monty. Instead, I propose that a trade window comes up (similar to the 'change civics plz' or 'change religion plz' or 'declare war on this dude plz' window), and Sitting Bull says: "Gooblah, the time has come to honor your obligations in our Mutual Defense Pact. Montezuma has brazenly attacked me and I ask you for help, my friend." Then you can either reject ("No thanks, I'll sit this one out...") or accept ("Of course! (Declare War)"). If it's a rejection, then a -8 diplomacy with Sitting Bull ("You refused to honor your obligations!") and a +2 with Montezuma ("You refused to back up an enemy."). If I get it to work for one, I should be able to get it to work for all.

Civ3 taught us that the ability to violate agreements is very exploitable.

June 25, 2009 - The day the music died.

I mourn the lost of the Greatest Artist ever. :( - the king has fallen

Kevin, how would you represent the many dynasties that rose and fall throughout the Maghreb?there are a couple that could be as earlier Libya/Algeria/Tunisia.
But most of the Maghreb was ruled for many years by Europeans, and many of the dynasties didn't last very last - a lot of rising and falling, not so much Empires.
So, I don't know how you'd represent them or like me to add onto Libya/Algeria/Tunisia.
The Hafsids were a dynasty ruling Ifriqiya (modern Tunisia) from 1229 to 1574 and may be what was in EU3 that you referred to as being on North Africa.

I know what you mean, poor MJ

@moopoo: you're free to work on anything but is there one in particular i can put you down for?

@gooblah: i can compile for you, and at some point I'll help you get the compile working. Are you compiling using Codeblocks or VS?

@grishnash: Yes, the dates line up with the Hafsid Dynasty in EU3 (I checked the history files). However it is just called "Tunisia." For Algeria "Algiers," it lasts from the beginning of EU3 in Nomine to the end (1400-1800s). It probably started even earlier. Libya "Tripoli" says "ruled by Tripoli Council" at 1399, but I don't know why/if this is fact. The monarchs for Tripoli start at 1711. Morocco lasts from beginning to end of game just like Algiers.

I'd say for dynasties it's just gonna be a call for each one... in this cased, I'd say amalagamate them. For China and the Middle East, probably seperate.

I'll do settler maps (although be warned, I'm holidaying through Asia through july, sans computer). I just need to find a world history atlas/similar resource on the internet and i'm good. and your excel template

@gooblah: i can compile for you, and at some point I'll help you get the compile working. Are you compiling using Codeblocks or VS?

VS2008. Can you PM me your email, or do you want me to just attach the code as a zip file? Either way works for me, whatever your preference is.

@Gooblah: you can do either, though I have now posted my email on the front page of the thread, if that is easier

And just to be clear you're entirely using VS right?

@moopoo: list of civs in the mod or list of countries in the world? If the latter, here are a couple of lists:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Kingdoms_(Ancient_-_Middle_Ages)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Lists_of_countries_by_year

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_empires

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_extinct_countries,_empires,_etc.
OR
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_extinct_states

Somewhere else on wikipedia there's also a page with dates from 1500 and it tells you the countries/states that existed at that time, though many years are incomplete.

Asia? Nice...

I'll get you the template/explain it within a day or two, as well as give you supplementary resources.

EDIT: progress updated on front page

All mod info is found in the civjunction forum, linked to on the front page

a new forum is something to think about in the future, so I can sticky posts and let others edit stuff. Plus there's been no activity at all on CivJunction recently

New computer is up and running, today I'll begin transferring files.

(Everything is on or ahead of target time-wise)

Hey that's good to hear!
I've run into some computer problems and won't be able to use it for quite some time. So, I won't be able to help any for a bit, sorry :(
Though.... The way I see it, there really isn't any need for me to complete the African Civilizations for some time, so I think i've got some leg room :p

Either way, good work so far and I hope things come along nicely. Can't way for the full thing :)

PS: I'll post whenever I've got regular internet use back.

What are your thoughts on a 'Moorish' Dynasty? It would act as much of the dynasties that were in the areas, like the ones who will ruled Spain. Along side others such as the Hafsids. Though I've hit a kind of block with Libya it was either ruled by Europeans or middle-easterns and was never really an independent nation until modern times.
Egypt did have conflicts with Libyans over the years but I think those were mostly nomads or small kingdoms.
Anyways, hope things are coming along. :)

@Grishnash: I'll leave it up to you, but do you mean a dynasty as in independent civ or dynasty as in part of a comprehensive civ? As I explained they could end up being either.

Everything is now all set up! Computer is running stable, games are installed and mod files transported.

System specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.4 Ghz
8Gb DDR3 Ram 1600 Mhz
Nvidia GTX280 1GB
1.5Tb hard drive
Vista Ultimate

98% of everything I do for the next couple months will be towards the map. But I will start looking at the DLL again soon.

Oh, this is kind of strange. The map thread has disappeared!!!

(I used to have it in fav.s and don't on the new computer so I searched it and couldn't find it. The link on my first post here is gone. Looked in Civ Junction and found a link, and says page not found)

Anyone have any idea what might have happened to it? lol

EDIT: until this is sorted out, all map development will be posted here.
