World History Mod development thread

I meant as a civ, while we'll see how it turns out :)
Oh, and check your sig. :D

Sorry about the massive delay!

I was away in CA and had no internet access for the past 10 days, so I'll FINALLY be able to post everything today. I'll either edit this post or add a new one.

@Grishnash: :P (woops)
@Gooblah: np, thank you, hope all went well in CA

Now time to finally post in the map thread (it's been months I think since I've updated progress)

Check out the map thread, most updates will be there for next few months

If you don't mind, I'm going to post here for C++ updates. Also, attached is the zip file with the needing-compiling files. Thanks a lot, Kevin! :goodjob:

Okay, I think I know what'll represent old Libya and Algeria.
The Abdalwadid Kingdom (maybe merged with other dynasties) will be Early Algeria, as it was in the location of Algeria, it was around from 1235-1556.
And for Libya, the Hafsid Kingdom (also perhaps merged) will stand for it. :)
Both lands were in one way or other ruled by outsiders after thaat...
I do not know, however, what to do with the Almohad/Almoravid dynasties, but we'll see)

Good job finding out about early Algerian/Libyan kingdoms... I think having them under these names, merged with the dynasties that followed, would be a good plan.

How much stability/sense of unity was there once those named king(dom)s disappeared?

Well, the kingdoms actually fell to the turks... So, as for disunity, I'm willing to say alot, but I think the Turks held a tight hold on their Empire for some time.
So, after the kingdoms fell, the area was ruled by Spain and Turkey until it fell under complete European Imperalism which lasted until the modern era where they were once again free states.
Another thing, the kingdoms are both from... The Almohad /Almoravids! That is their past.
The areas went from Almoravids to Almohads to Abdalwadid and Hafsid in around the 1200s. So, unless I was to merge them with the Almo's, their pretty much stand alone kingdoms :)
In my own opinion, I think that the Almo's should be included, because they were a VERY importent part of North African history and were both Native Kingdoms as aside from the Arabian/European rule of the land. But it's up to you, right now I'll just look at Abdalwadid and Hafsid as stand alone early Algeria/Libya.

I hope things are coming along! Keep up the good work! :)

Another civ i'll be looking into is Banu Ifran. :)

neat- I never saw that one... For Almoravid/Almohad it's actually up to you, if you feel it is a civ that is fine. I agree that they were very important. I just at the time wasn't sure what to do with dynasties, but I think most big dynasties will be included.

@Gooblah: i am SO sorry I forgot you had meant for me to compile those files so you could test it! I'll get on that in the next couple days.

1 month till first map release! All is on schedule still.

 Don't worry about it. I delayed actually posting those files for months. :D Map Release sounds great, can't wait! :goodjob:

I installed VC2005, and now it is giving me an error when I try to convert from VC2003-2005.

CvGameCoreDLL.vcproj Not Converted 2 0
Conversion Issues - CvGameCoreDLL.vcproj:
The following error has occurred during XML parsing: File: C:\Users\Kevin\Desktop\ToCompile\CvGameCoreDLL.vcproj Line: 10 Column: 2 Error Message: '9.00' violates enumeration constraint of '7.00 7,00 7.10 7,10 8.00 8,00'. The attribute 'Version' with value '9.00' failed to parse. The file 'C:\Users\Kevin\Desktop\ToCompile\CvGameCoreDLL.vcproj' has failed to load.
Project upgrade failed.

In case I find no answer I will start downloading VC2003

EDIT: VC2003 successfully downloaded.

Uninstalling VC2005, which is taking a HECK of a long time- there are honestly about 10 things to uninstall, and some items are taking as long as an hour or more. I should have it compiled within a few days though

A question, have you decided on Ethiopia yet?
... Yes, this is just a bump but I attached a question to it so there!

Okay, I've done a little work on the African list. What I like to call phase one, the first part in a three stage work on the African Unique List to improve it. The pervious work I like to think of as preliminary research and confirmation and now the really work has begun.
Check it out on the main forum which can be found in both mine and Kevinman's signatures.
However, I am still waiting on the final decision on Ethiopia and thus put it off till further notice.
Remember, this is just Phase one so it's not all that great. I'll actually be going on a business trip tomorrow and will be gone till the 26th, so I won't be able to do anything till then but I wish the best of luck to Kevin, the team (if there is one) and the mod! GOOD LUCK!
Please check out the other forums!!!
Good Luck! Good workings! I hope you get this rolling! Good Luck! Good workings! Can't wait to get this loading!

PS: Kevin, I've added a few civilizations to the list, tell me if their okay :) And is it okay if Uganda is taken out?

@Gooblah: I am using VS2003 and I get an error saying it can only read versions 7.1 and 7.2, and the file is 9.00.

I really don't know what to do to update it, or if it's caz I skipped something during installation. I never had this issue last time.

@Grishnash: Checking it now! (well in a few seconds). Uganada can go. Thank you for working on it despite little visible activity :P The map is being worked on, though I've hit a barrier.

So what happened here?

I haven't been on this thread for a long time.

How is the map and the mod in general coming along?

Sorry, I'm a bit late.

Hmmmm....well, I know I use VS2005/2008 which is a free download from MS (pretty nice). I'll probe around a bit more.

@TheLastOne36: I think Kevin has outlined it a bit more in the map thread, but right now focus has shifted to making the map work -> then the mod -> then a North America test map for the mod -> etc -> final release.

I've started jotting down the necessary code for an Occupation Mod that I've been brainstorming in the Tavern, it may fit the need you have for 'realistic diplomacy'...dunno.

I think I use VS.net... I wonder if that is why though I just think either mine or yours is outdated, and I don't know how to update it to your version.

An occupation system sounds great! Occupation, siege, diplomats/contact, and more diplomacy options are all I should need to accomplish "realistic diplomacy"

@LastOne36

The map is 95% complete. I am currently out of ideas on how I can graphically simulated snowcover. This was easily my favourite component and whereas it takes only 5 seconds to change ice cover, and -10 seconds to load and display the entire map, it takes 6 minutes to change snowcover, which is obviously unbearable. The code is fine, but I can't figure out why it is taking so long to update the graphics with snow. I am looking for a way of fixing that or an alternative way of changing the graphics. Let me know if you have any ideas!

Map > North America Testing > Mod (continent by continent... Africa will be next).

I'll help with the xml and i might be able to a little bit of python

Another update from my side:

I think I've cracked the compilation problems (hopefully); I've also located an error with my code, and fixed that (I forgot to un-comment some essential code).

My XML Tagger program is running into an odd problem (the code is right, the program isn't functioning AFAICT), so I've been working on that for a bit. I'll update again with progress on the occupation mod.
