World History Mod development thread

Here is a sneak preview of the two latest units (I am going through them really quickly)

pistolier.png

huaminca.png

They're kinda blurry... if anyone uses an image hosting site that doesn't convert to png please let me know (I'm too lazy to look)
EDIT: I'm not crazy, I swear! Someone who used my computer zoomed out because the font is so small on my nice big computer screen! So all my internet-hosted pics were huge!

Pics of European base units tonight!

Here are almost all base units for the historical era:
*I may shrink the images later, or I may have to; I bet it breaks some forum rule

Highland mesoamerica, native base units coming soon

OK, so N/S american civ unit sets have been redivided into 4 groups: Andes, Mesoamerican, Native, Tropical

I will edit the base unit sets into this post, as well, I will edit in a pic of the Incan base units, and Incan UUs, and Chimu UU if I finish it.
EDIT:
andesunits.bmp

Spoiler :

OK, so here's the lowdown on the new-units-picture.

This is the Andes Base Unit Set (Inca, Chimu, Nazca?, Huari?):

Warrior
Spearman
Elite Spearman
Swordsman
Maceman
Slinger
Archer
Scout

Those are all pictured, in the first two rows, albeit in a random order.

In the third row we have our three lovely UUs, note that we do not have nearly enough information to include Huari or Nazca civs at this point in time.

The units there (in order this time) are: (Inca) Chasqui Scout, (Chimu) Si Spearman, (Inca) Huaminca.

The Chasqui Scouts in the Incan Empire were relay-message-bearers who usually travelled on the roads. Unfortunately road-bound-relay-message-bearers aren't very useful in civ4 :(

The Si Spearman is apparently a really powerful spearman, and has something to do with the Chimu's moon cult or moon temple

The Huaminca is another strong spearman which was apparently good against buildings (not that that makes much more sense... nor is it very useful in civ4)

The Quechua is no longer a UU because Quechua is the name of the language of the Incas and the makers of civ4 intended it to be a generic reference to Inca soldiers.

The Inca Bolas Warrior is indefinitely postponed due to impossibility (maybe in a couple years from now...)

Notes: Sorry about the swordsman's shield glitch, it is being fixed right now. And the Si Spearman glitch. And BTW the pattern on the maceman's shield is a customary Incan pattern; for the Chimu etc. it will just be a generic shield or a proper local design. EDIT: oh, :):):):), and the blade of the Si Spearman's scepter needs to be bronze

Anyways (ramble ramble) you'd be amazed at the historicity of the artwork :)

I am doing a thorough scouring of the forums for anything I can use and I have a HUGE amount of ideas. There are too many ideas to list here, so I will try to professionally consolidate them in a thread on the official forum. The link is now back in my signature.

I have also found something that I was able to use to reconstruct the utterly massive civ list, which is once again on the the forum.

edit: oh, and since december, apparently someone has broken the barriers behind quant. resources... I will test out this person's code!

And just so I don't get your hopes up, these are the issues I can foresee:
Spoiler :

-how will lumber work?
-will trading work? all resources must be tradeable just like gold

EDIT: Mesoamerican base units/art are done. Flags are done. Some of the civilizations are now in the mod and ready to go. This means I am partway through getting my mod into the RFC engine. Mayan art and UUs for all gathered Mesoamerica info coming soon! (note: eagle warrior, jaguar warrior, coyote warrior no longer UUs)

And this brings me to my biggest concern. Does anyone doubt this will project will end successfully? Or given up because of civ5? I am committed to a release by the end of this summer (though I may have to rerelease if I can borrow stuff from civ5 or vice versa).

Anyways, I'm reluctant to give up on it, but if there is noone left by the time I release stuff, I'm just not gonna release it. And even if I have the patience to do it all on my own, it will never come even close to reaching its potential. Due to team shortages I am halted on so many important fronts- techs, civics, almost all African civ information, and (unrelated) map mechanics. And I already have far more to do than I can manage

So if you have been involved in the past and reed this post, let me know you're here! As long as a few people are consistently following it, one or two people other than me are contributing some work, and there is a little desire for it, I will release/develop it, and make it better than you ever thought possible!

I'd love to help but I doubt I'd be of any use.

However, you can rest assured that there are plenty of people here who'd love to see this released, so don't give up.

Besides, would you have wanted to do all the work so far for nothing?

KEVIN!!! I"M NOT DONE YET!!!! :goodjob::goodjob::goodjob::goodjob::goodjob:
I'm still around and waiting for your AWESOME MOD!!! Sorry I haven't replied earlier or updated the African list... I'll do that right now!!! Nice units, they look good.
I've been checking up on the forum every now and then but never got around to posting, just know that I've always been following your mod and won't stop till the very last release! I can't wait to play it!!! And in my opinion Civilisation V looks like it's going down a path I don't approve of (hehe) so theres no need to worry, as I most likely won't play it for some time after it's release (Maybe just to check it out, but it looks bad)

Anyways... I Stand Firm! :goodjob:

@nutnut: thanks! you have quite the ambitious mod yourself! if I can do anything for you let me know

@Grishnash: YEY! I don't know if this is what you meant, but the last time you signed in was early February; it wasn't that you hadn't updated it but that I've lost all the African info and I was worried that it would be lost forever! yay!

~~~
The units are turning out REALLY superb, but I have ran into an issue- I think I have exceeded the maximum amount of units the worldbuilder can tolerate without glitching out. I can get around this but it will be a royal pain in the ass, not being able to use worldbuilder
more pics to come
I'm SORRY!!! I've just been so busy lately! But I haven't given up!! What it was, was that I wanted to do all the settler and war maps before I posted, but I couldn't find time to finish them and thus kept putting off posting :( Sorry!!!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Hope for the best! Cheers! :goodjob:
haha it's okay! EDIT: Holy crap that was fast! Thanks for reposting it! At some point I will make a backup of all our info
meso (aztec, etc.) base units (sorry about any small glitches):
mesobaseunits.bmp
the mayans use these units but have their own art for each unit
jaguar warrior, eagle warrior, coyote warrior are no longer unique units. They are just gonna be the artwork for elite swordsmen (not shown... couldn't find the image). Most meso civs had them and they're no different from the standard elite swordsmen
All Meso/Incan units will get "Shock Weapons 1", which just makes the units weaker (so that they will usually fall to Europeans, etc.)
However, elite swordsmen, ie the jaguars, coyotes and eagles, will get Shock Weapons 2" which gives a 5% chance of capture.
While the Mayans did not really have these warriors, they were influenced by civs like the Aztecs. The Mayan's elite swordsman, the bird warrior, will instead double as a general. However one of its other UUs, the Jaguar Spearman (elite spearman), will have "Shock Weapons 2" like the Jaguar/Coyote/Eagle knights.
The Holkan now throws spears
Mayan UU teaser (2/3 of them):
mayauupreview.bmp
2 units which have not been shown yet are giving me trouble, so I will redo them. When that is done I will show the Mayan units and remaining UUs.
Then I will do the native units, then get the rest of the civs in-game, then adjust the rise/fall, then get my map working with the mod. I anticipate no trouble. Then I will turn my attention to other things (ie techs, civics)
I AM ON A BREAK UNTIL MAY 1ST! Exams, followed by a 15-day writing job
haha it's okay! EDIT: Holy crap that was fast! Thanks for reposting it! At some point I will make a backup of all our info
I'm On A Mac!!!
Yeah well I'm on a PC! NO who am I kidding I hate windows as a company. Mind you, all the macs I've ever been on have been really slow. And I have never liked using them. I prefer the open world of windows. But to be honest, I like them a LOT more than I used to when they weren't so popular- in many ways they probably are better than PCs
My computer is blazing fast (fastest computer I've ever used), but despite being well-built by me, really likes running at high temperatures. I got it so it would last me a long time (which was maybe kind of dumb)
Anyways the Mayan artwork has taken longer than I thought and I cannot deliver on my schedule for posting pics! I have run out of time.
So I am taking a hiatus until May 1st. I need to get myself out of the path to failure. And then I have a paid job I have to do from April 15-30.
I'll get back to posting then, but if anyone has any ideas I will of course reply! I am not being lazy, even though I am taking a rather long time off!
oh, and the settler/war maps you have done so far are great! I suppose there's a reason Kanem/Bornu is almost all yellow (what would make it so different from the other African civs?)
Anyways, the colouring is great, I have no desire to even touch them! thanks!
Thanks, glad their of use! :) I'm sorry, Kanem/Bornu wasn't finished, forgot :blush: :crazyeye:
I'll get on it :)
Good Luck! Don't be away toooooo long :p
I have no modding skills so unable to help with this but am very much looking forward to it's release. Keep up the good work on this project, there'll still be people playing civ4 when ciV is released. Heck, there still people playing civ 2!
@Beardedwonder: thanks! you can always help out by playtesting it ;)
~~~

Well, I got through that exam. We'll see how I did.

But I bring fantastic news! I took a nice post-exam break and... my map is now fully working (with winter and everything) with the RFC engine! And the rise and fall for my civs is working perfectly! That was surprisingly quick... thank God for RFCEurope

All that is left is to get all my civs in, finish the art, events, civics and techs! and then some game easy-to-do game mechanics, like stack-fighting, etc.; lots of good stuff that's already been made and some stuff that hasn't

That will continue mainly after May 1st, though I'm sure I will get a little distracted from time to time... I really shouldn't be touching this right now though

Kevin

OK, I know this is getting ridiculous, but now I have gotten everything I could possibly get done and can no longer be distracted!

Mayan base units and UUs:

Clubman
Spearman
Slinger
Elite Archer/Atlatl
Scout
Swordsman
Bird Warrior (UU)
Holkan (UU)
Jaguar Spearman (UU)

Sorry for the bad image quality
this means that 99% of non-native unit artwork is done!

last update until after May 1, I promise!

Here's the stuff on the Nazca, Huari, and Teotihuacan that you wanted.

Nazca- Leader: Sinchi (Spiritual, Organized), UU: Headhunter (Replaces Swordsman, 0-1 First Strikes) UB: Nazca Lines (Replaces Monument, adds +3 Culture)

Huari- Leader: Lord of Sipan (Spiritual, Imperialistic), UU: Tiwanaku (Replaces Spearman, +25% hills defense) UB: Huaca (Monument that heals units 10% per turn)
[It was nigh impossible to find anything on the Huari specifically, thus the Leader and UB are actually from the Moche culture which was later assimilated into the Huari. Also, here is the Lord of Sipan's wiki page for Reference.]

Teotihuacan- Leader: Spearthrower Owl (Aggressive, Imperialistic), UU: Cuicuilco (Replaces Clubman, 10% chance to turn defeated units into workers) UB: Sun Pyramid (Replaces Monument, +1 Hammer in Adjacent tiles)

I'll get UHVs in later, but here's the bare minimum you wanted for these nations.

BTW, I don't know if you still need it or not, but Sitting Bull's native name is Tatanka Yotanka, the literal translation is, "An obstinate Bull Buffalo at Rest"

Wow! That was fast!

Just a note, I said Tiwanaku, not Teotihuacan (already incl.) :P However, that is incredibly helpful, as now that I think of it, I didn't have a UU or UB. EDIT: and will it be a problem that you used Tiwanaku as a UU?

Tiwanaku and Huari are your choice entirely, they are quite unimportant compared to the others but they were full-fledged civs nonetheless

Thanks for all the info! I will edit it in tonight
I chose 2d leaderheads due to a shortage of specific or generic 3d leaderheads. I currently lack enough leaderheads for Tarascan, plus Nazca/Huari/Tiwanaku
EDIT: oh wow, you found some! Ha, Then I'll use those! (The only civ I lack one for is Tarascan) Where are you finding these 8| Especially the second one, they're quite nice

In case you are wondering I am on break till May 1st, then I'll get back to hard work! I was hired for something that will occupy me to May 1st. But as I said, everything is looking up for a release July 31st :)

on the ideas front, I believe I should pioneer a shortcut in the mod folder for each civ you want to play! the rise and fall will still work because I'll just advance the turn #. On top of being so much more convenient to players, it will let me test civs that are over a thousand years apart without me having to buy a second computer to check my emails while I wait!

I will also provide the option to do the waiting, since some people might like a semi-random game

Kevin

Alright, so, I really did think you said Teotihuacan XP, however, I think the Huari warrant Civdom much more than the Tiwanaku. As the Tiwanaku were assimilated into the Huari Empire, and didn't have much of an impact on the region.

These two leaderheads come from Civ Gold 5.0 which I just updated to. By the way, here are two Native leaderheads you might be able to use for the Tarascans, if you aren't using either of these already. Found them while browsing the Leaderheads list in Graphics modpacks.
