Hey everybody.
Been playing Civ since the 1st. In civ2 I always *always* played on Earth map with starting locations historically accurate and loved it.
Primarily because I enjoyed trying to recreate as much as I could the british empire. Not because I'm brit funly enough but just because in the context of Civilization its actually pretty f*ing hard.

Anyways I love world map with locations proper start. But since civ2 I've never been able to do it because for whatever reason none of the new civ's have ever included it.

Now with civ4 which i have just recently procured, and btw I LOVE it. New graphics are wonderful and the closed/open boarders is finally working properly. Oh and for those people that say Civ4 runs poorly. I would say the main issue is graphics card (must have its own GPU/processing unit) so it doesn't put the load of the CPU is probably of paramount importance.
I grabbed the nvidia 6600GT.
And a lot of RAM. Probably 1 GB should suffice. I've only got 512 at current and will get more most likely but thus far its ok.
Oh and AMD Sempron 3000+ so nothing special.

But having said that i've only plaid on a map with 8 civs including myself and on standard or large i think thus far. But no particular lag really, up to 1900AD thus far.

Anyways my question is, in civ4 can i PLEASE play on Earth maps again (well proportioned earth maps) with starting locations accurate? Because its not in the game as yet and i was hoping somebody could point me to a proper download for this.

I thought that the regular Earth map was accurate when I played it.
I was Rome.
Oh, I know there isn't an English starting civ - I remember.
Germany, Rome, China, um I can't remember but no england.

Yea, we need a custom senerio for this! :scan:

I think you'll find what you're looking for in the pre-made maps sub-forum. There are several earth maps of various sizes, including some where folks have gone to great lengths to get even the resources in the right places.

Yes it is, just download the latest patch. There's an Earth map that has all 18 civs placed on it.

Got to have this one, what's the link?

Cheers guys. I ended up downloading one that has all 18 civ's on it but its erm...100x56 size map I believe. Standard or soemthing. (ie you can fit 3 cities on England if you're imaginative).

And consequently the problem is the world is theoretically large enough ala old school style civ2 play where there was say 8-10 civs total or something but 18 just overcrowds it BAD so much so that each civ pretty much has 2-3 cities (inclusive of capital) throughout the game.

Anyway i can tell the game to only put in 12 civs rather than ridiculously squeezed 18.

Like civ2 took care of that problem by having a few civs share the same colour and hence only 1 at a time could be in game.

Just have a look around the forum, it's probably stickied at the very top. Or you could try going to the Civ 4 website.
