I don't see a WW3 happening in the terms that you guys see it... Armaggedon (God's intervening) will be IMO WW3. Nukes will not be involved as they are just protection (if you nuke me I can Nuke you... So let's just all calm down, kinda thing)
As to when, noone knows, or could pradict it, as 'Only the Father (God) knows'

Egypt(and Jordan IIRC) gets the American aid. I'm not sure Israel can defeat only Egypt again, and Israel definetely will not win another Yom Kippur style war.
And since for Israel losing a war equals to the destruction of the state(just look on the map) i'm not sure that the Arabs will want a victory.

The thing about the middle east, is that all the possible combatants are pinners in the world of military might. The rest of the world won't go taking sides (to the point of fighting, at least) even if war does break out in the region. And non of them are strong enough to cause problems elsewhere.

Forgive me if i'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the B52 was being progressivley replaced with the B-1B as the main strategic bomber. The BUFF is getting on a bit, but can still be used as an aerial platform for the launch of cruise missiles.

Yes, one does remember the sabre rattling of a short while back, but it never really threatened to develop into anything. The PRC lacks any sort of surface fleet, and does not have air superiority, so attempting an invasion would be unfeasible, as well as improbable. Launching several missiles from their limited nuclear arsenal is even less likely, as they do not wan to wipe out Taiwan, but to take over its people and commercial potential, like they did in Hong Kong.
So, IMO, and backed by what facts I can find, real war there looks very unlikely. Tension, and lots of threats, like the previous 50 years, but no war.

Dead on with that last fragment - the greatest social reforms always come after the most devestating wars - however ironic that may seem.

Possible scenarios - you have to look at what countries can be considered superpowers and how agressive they are. Both the U.S. and China have historically been isolationist. Russia has a long road back to elite status, if ever. Western Europe has finally learned how to get along with themselves. There are no ther superpowers left after that. The Middle east is a powederkeg, no doubt, but I cannot see them all working together to create a real threat to the rest of the world. Now, India-Pakistan, this one has the highest probability in my opinion, and let us not forget that China nad India have had their squabbles over the years. I would say it would be here. I should think that India would get support from The West and Pakistan could get help from the Arab states, and perhaps additionally form some sort of loose alliance with China, much like the Axis Alliance in WW2.

As far a the idea of nuclear exchange, I would not see it ever happening, unless one nation was about to fall, and they just launched as a last act of desperation.

how: Our Minister of Foreign Affairs Fat Louis Michel will with himself plant an nuke at the red square ,triggering global nuclear warfare in wich Belgium whil be amongst the only crummy nations that still exist. We will wage war then caputering other superpowers us-alike like Switzerland,Luxemburg,monaco,Liechtenstein,vatican city,...

consequentes:Everybody will be forced to eat the most faty belgian frites (and will be insisted to say BELGIAN Frites ,instead of French frites(on panalty of actually eating 10 bowls of french frites)) ,drink atleast 5 gallons Beer carfully brewed in the most lame-ass monastery's and have to learn the most boring story's of lozer national heroes like Briek Schotte ,Pater Damiaan ,Eddy Wally and The Duke of Flanders.
