It isnt Enron Field anymore.

Its Minute Maid Stadium.
That's almost as bad.

The Baltimore Ravens' stadium is called psi.net stadium. Lovely. Everyone calls it "piss-net" stadium. Ironically, psi.net has just gone bankrupt. I guess we'll just whore out the name to some other company.

Isn't San Diego new baseball stadium called Petco Stadium or something like that?

Sports teams make a bundle of money from corporate sponsorship, but sometimes the names of those company's just don't fit well with sports association. It goes a long way to making some sports arenas/stadiums seem just silly.

What if Playtex wanted to get in on the sponsorship action--even if was just for women's sports? You can just here it now, "Welcome to Playtex Arena, home of the fighting Undergarments."

the old Gator Bowl in Jacksonville became Alltel stadium.. most folks either still call it the Gator Bowl or call it Y'alltel...

Pro Player Park is pretty bad. I mean, especially when they play college games there. :) You'd think just playing there would be an NCAA violation...

I think you guys being from America can probably come up with all sorts of possible worst names for stadiums as you have so many stadiums. I'm trying to think of one in Australia, but nothing is quite as bad as what you've mentioned.

If you're talking good names, my favourite football team plays out of WIN Stadium (named after the local TV station) which sounds encouraging. The thing is they don't win their often enough and actually drew there more times last year. Maybe they should rename it Draw Stadium. :)

WIN Stadium, huh?

With a name like that the team must be under a lot of pressure to, well, you know...win.

Given Sunderland's current form, the Stadium of Light is sadly misnamed.

Joe louis arena is the best stadium name left
close runner up is wrigley field...thats like synonymous with chicago

I hate all stadiums named after companies. I know they want to advertise but this is going too far.

Wankhead (pronounced 'wank-eed') Stadium in Pakistan. Always worth a laugh when the cricket is played there!

brought this thread back from the dead didn't you?

Love Street. St.Mirreen FC
Gay Meadow. Shrewsbury Town
And any stadium name with a company name in it.

A friend of mine mentioned that Pfizer purchased the naming rights to a minor league club in the Baltimore area. Our suggestion was to name the venue "Viagradome" instead of Pfizer Field.

I believe the team no longer exists, but I could be wrong.

I also hate those damn corporate names on stadiums. Just last month I got really pissed when I found out the White Sox sold the naming rights of Comiskey Park to U.S. Cellular so they could do renovations- adding and fixing things that should have been done when they BUILT IT! The only company named stadium I can tolerate are the orginals, with with company names that are the same as the owners names(or original owners) like Wrigley Field and Busch Stadium.
