Worst Starting locating thread

Uh... I already asked that question, Zenon.

Look, it works without modifying the rules too... :shakehead

It's just a bug in the game and works in epic games too, but I don't want to play 5000 games to find that one time a volcano destroys my city.

Thread necromancer reporting for duty. I had a sucky island with no rivers and little growth potential, but I lost the save and the screenie. Hopefully, I'll get another sucky start soon- which will be easy considering my luck with the Map generator!

What's not so great is that you can't irrigate in the tundra. Afterall the water would just freeze.

Lancelot, there is no freshwater!! :p

Someone should try a game that's literally a Huge earth map with nothing but Tundra...

Hmmm...Ice Age wars...strange.

And the only available units are warriors...

You should post that in kill fire's "The games... within the game!" thread.

the only locations i hate starting in are surrounded by mountains. even though they can hold some really key resources they are so hard on your young civ in the early going. navigating, road building, just simply moving to new lands take so long that your slower going then any of your rivals. its a challenging start point.
in short, navigation is the key to early success. being able to spread out faster is key to holding new lands, finding new resources etc...if your nudged into a mountain island your at the mercy of nature.

I had a bad one in my most recent game as Portugal. I was on a very narrow peninsula and all I could see was plainsfor miles around. And no fresh water for irrigation around. My city only grew to size three because I had fish near the city. Also I didn't get any recources nearby but I haven't played long enough to find anything later than Iron and horses.

Here's another desert start from my story:

Well, for now at least. Actually, my variant seems to be almost ineffectual because I said that floodplains would only be counted as desert until engineering, and I'm currently at the end of the ancient age. And those were some of the only flood plains I enoucntered (the others are in the Inca Empire). And, so far, the only volcanoes I've found are a chain of them in the far north and one on a seperate island that currently has an AI city next to it.

But yeah, it's not as bad as it looks. Now if the river weren't there, it would be a very sucky start.
