It seems this game turned out to be a lot tougher than I expected it to be, producing just five submissions and only two victories! Congratulations to Jastow (Domination in 1660AD) and Dhoomstriker (Culture in 1874AD). Well tried to Minou, Falabello and UB40 - who all tried but couldn't prevail against monsters such as Kublai Khan - whom I think just about everyone reported became huge in this game. On higher difficulties, Warlords is the hardest variant of Civ (because the AI are more intelligent than in vanilla, and start with more bonuses than in BtS). I thought that giving you calendar and sugar would help offset that, but clearly it wasn't enough.

Well done everyone!

Here's where everyone settled. Everyone moved to get the gold in your BFC's. And it seems that for most of you, the attraction of a 3F capital prevailed over the defence bonus of a hill.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Nice work, Jastrow! :goodjob:

Congrats to all who tried their luck on this difficult map!

In looking at the starting screenshot, I recall getting one Hut before the AIs took all of the others, probably giving me a partial map or an insignificant amount of Gold.

The GH Riv Gold was a nice gift, but the awkward placement of Strategic Resources definitely added to the challenge of this map.

With the Immortal difficulty level and its higher base points, it also seemed like an fitting time to go back to my traditional Cultural Victory ways, allowing me to put out the highest-scoring Warlords Cultural Victory out of all WOTM games.

Thanks go out to the staff for continuing this fun competition and I hope that the smaller-sized maps of future games will bring out more submissions! :)

Just for my own future reference: do you have to play until victory/loss to submit? I abandoned because Kublai was out of control and I didn't want to invest another 8-10 hours of gameplay into a space attempt that would have been iffy at best. I would still like to submit, even if the game is incomplete, as a way of accurately showing participation.

Hi Meow, no, you don't have to complete the game. You can retire and submit at any point while playing - so yes, please do so if you find you can't complete any game in the future. Just save your game at the point you want to retire, and submit it using the usual submission page. As I recall, there's a question on the form that asks if you're submitting a retired game. I think the most common reasons for retiring are running out of time, hitting a point where the game will be too tedious to play, or if you're facing a conquest loss that won't be much fun to play through.

Retired games are listed with all the other games in the results (if you look through the results for previous games you'll often see entries marked as 'retired'). They score using the same rules as for defeated games, but aren't eligible for any medals. All the normal no-replaying rules still apply.

As you've correctly guessed, submitting the retired game is better than not submitting at all because it shows that you've participated, and means you get to feature in the results.
