Basically, I think I can train the AI to use its military better. To do this, I will need to greatly simplify combat and unit designs, with far fewer counter units and fewer units that need to be protected. The obvious con is that combat will be simpler, with less depth, and less clever plays to do. Being clever won't help you very much. The upside would be that the AI will be more competitive with the player; it will be able to handle its military better largely because the consequences of screwing up will be reduced. Is this something people would be interested in? I may have the time to do it in the next month or two.
