I noticed 2 years ago that there actually is a mosque (and two churches) about 5 blocks away from where I live. I don't quite particularly care about them.

christianity professes love, islam professes hate, big diffrence. Islam is a relagion of terror.
All religions teach love and discipline. Your ignorance is no excuse for your beliefs.

Islam is only going through the same stage Christianity went through 500-1000 years ago. Do you remember the Inquisition and the Crusades? Or were those the Muslims' fault too?

BTW the acts of 19 do not illustrate the opinions of hundreds of thousands.

Christianity professing love!? I'm pretty sure love is in the air when those abortion clinics blow up. Your religion is not of love. Islam is not a religion of hate. It is just a different spin to Christianity, just like Christianity is a different spin to Judaism.

oh please dont go there

We and the Jews worship Jehovah

Muslims worship Allah.

these two are not the same. The only reason it is even said to be the same is a translation problem where we both call them God, but the base terms are not the same, we do not worship the same god.

Yes, they are the same. Surely, you know that even that Pope John Paul II said they were the same. If they weren't the same, why did Allah send Gabriel, an angel of Jehovah, down to Muhammad?

Allah is god

Allah is arabic for god

Christian arabs use the word Allah

You lose

Allah is Arabic for God.
So the Muslims are worshiping God, the Christian and Jewish God. The 3 religions are the same, just have different beliefs on the prophets. Nothing about which god they worship.

Allah, Jehovah, God, all the same.
Stop being a bigot candle

Well, the crusades are a touchy subject. Technically the Arabs occupied former Roman land, and Italians wanted it back. Also Ottomans were a threat to Europe when they first arrived.

But:
Spoiler :
I find the Inquisition the most idiotic practice EVER! Really. Killing people in the name of God is.... unforgivable!
[pissed]

BTW, did you know:
Orthodox Christianity never had any crusade or any form of Inquisition ever? :smug:

The Crusades were remembered not just as an invasion, but as European brutality.
For example:
When the Crusaders took Jerusalem they slaughtered all the Jews and Muslims
Vs:
When Saladin took Jerusalem he let many free and even pay for the freedom of others
In addition the Christian/Muslim conflicts of today would not exist if the Crusades had not happened.

Good for the Orthadoxers...

...I think that's the word...

Candle, I'd be interested to know just how informed about Islam you are.

Are you relying on propaganda and misconceptions as proofs? Read some of the Qu'ran yourself and you'll see the difference.

These are some of the sayings attributed to Muhammad (pbuh):

“The first thing created by God was the intellect.”

“The ink of the scholar is more precious than the blood of the martyr.”

“One learned man is harder on the devil than a thousand worshippers.”

“He who wishes to enter the paradise at the best door must please his mother and father.”

“No man is a true believer unless he desires for his brother that he desires for himself.”

“Women are twin-halves of men.”

“That person is nearest to God, who pardons…him who would have injured him.”

Hopefully this will give you a greater appreciation for Islam.

@Mirc
Orthadoxes, yeah I think that's it, at least from Latin...

@Statcom
I don't think facts phase Candle on any of his beliefs...

So far so good regarding the poll.

It seems that more than 85% of respondents would be fine with a Mosque being built nearby, and the vast majority of those that wouldn't be are American :mischief:.

See, this is one of the main reasons I separated out Canada/Australia/New Zealand from the USA, I didn't want American respondents giving people the wrong impression about the former countries!

I'm rather impressed that so many people have a positive (or at least indifferent) view :D.

So long as there is enough Muslims to have a Mosque, I would not mind building a Mosque.

According to google I already have a mosque in my neighborhood. I guess I didn't notice it because I don't care.

If I can tolerate Protestant 'churches,' I can tolerate mosques. :p

Well, it wouldn't make me uncomfortable but I'd rather not have Churches, Mosques, or Synagogues in my neighborhood.

I think a general Philosophers' Circle type of structure where any person can go and discuss the metaphysical would be preferable.
