I downloaded the screensaver at work and in a few seconds it was up and running. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that it sucks. The map was cool but the animation was terrible. Sure it was smooth, but I tired of it very quickly. It wasn't obvious to me how each battle was going, and the 3D knight riding on the city reinforced the erroneous notion that a unit is a single entity rather than a whole troop/squadron/flotilla etc of up to 10,000 men. It also reminded me that gameplay is what I want from the game, not toy graphics. To me it's a waste of software development resource to put that kind of stuff in and it puts the price up on the game by a significant margin. Hey, but I'm not the target audience, so what do Firaxis care about me?

Stormerne is a miserable bastard and he knows it because he's had a
lot of people point it out to him over the years and he sees no
reason to disagree with them except the obvious one which is that he
likes disagreeing with people, particularly people he dislikes, which
includes, at the last count, everyone.
