I wonder if you must have a "gold" (xbox live account in order to download the demo?

if you do not have gold, I think I've heard you have to wait a week to download demos.

Also, if you do not have gold, you will not be able to access the multiplayer part of the demo

Guess I'll pay $7.99 for 1 month of "gold" access and download it tonight. What a racket.

I've got the firmware on my 360 flashed, I just wish there was some way to access the hdd so I could download the demo online and just transfer it over.

nope, but there's bound to be an extra 48 hour trial lying around either behind their counters, or in one of the cover boxes on the shelves.

One of those 48-hour trials would be perfect; unfortunately, just driving my car 2 miles to Blockbuster and back would probably use more than $7.99 in gas. ;)

It might be worth it though just to avoid paying microsoft to access the hard drive I already purchased...

Check your PMs.

you realize you can use your hard drive without needing a gold membership, you just won't be able to download the demo immediately...you'd have to wait a week(from what I've heard).

My gold just expired yesterday, so I'll be using a trial membership in order to download it right now.

The 7.99 isn't for access to your hard drive. You own that hardware. Xbox Live Gold account is to pay them for access to the stuff they put on the network, among a slew of other things. I don't personally pay for this, as I don't even have an Xbox. I have a playstation 3. But I do understand how the xbox live accounts work. Either pay 7.99 or wait until you can get it for free.

You are essentially paying $7.99 for access to the hard drive.

Can you ssh into your 360's hard disk and move/copy/delete files? The answer is no.

You must go through microsoft's proprietary interface in order to put anything on the 360's hdd.

um...you don't need an XBL account in order to do anything on your hard drive

try going to the farthest right blade and selecting memory...it will let you move/copy/delete stuff from there.

In fact, I don't even know how you expect to be able to access your hard drive through XBL...there's absolutely no interface in there to touch your hard drive other than to download stuff

The ONLY reason you need to pay for an XBL gold account is to download free stuff when it is put up, rather than a week later, or to play online multiplayer....trust me, I know...I've been using my 360 to download and move around lots of stuff on my 360 for over a year...I really don't know why you'd think differently, I've never even heard of someone thinking what you think.

edit: also, you can always buy more than just 1 month, and it costs less per month when you do that. You can get 1 month for 8 bucks, 3 months for 20 bucks(6.50 per month), 12 months for 50 bucks(just over 4 per month), or 13 months for 50 bucks(just under 4 bucks per month)
