Anyone heard of that worm, LOVSAN? The one that causes computers to restart? Well, guess what...

WE HAVE IT!!!

For a while I couldn't go online without the comp restarting, but now that I can get on, it loads real slow, and certain websites mess up. It also makes all the games real slow, even CIV III!!! NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

We're getting the patch for it, and we'll have it fixed soon...I hope.

hehe, since when do they say Yah in Germany?? :D

I go with the Dutch 'Ja' though

Get some decent anti-virus software and you'll never need to worry about this stuff - I don't have it so I'll vote other (Nein is German for NO)

accutally anti virus can only stop a virus if they know about it so if it's new and your one of the first to get it then it still doesn't help. Also i have heard that some viruses use the anti virus as a way to get in(heard don't know) I have a free antivirus on mine i doubt if it helps anything, and if i get a virus i'll just use my other drive that my computer has instead of the back up discs

Thats why you should keep your software up to date and patched.

Using a free anti virus program is barely more usefull than having no virus protection - get something better.

Yeah. But it's pronounced "yah," so I guess trumpeter has only heard it out loud and never read it.

I haven't had any troubles with the virus, BTW.

I had it too. Annoying thing. So 'ja' (The Dutch version)

I got it a few days ago, only unplugged my router which has a built in firewall, for a couple of seconds whilst I tried something and got infected.

Atleast it is in Swedish

Do you hate the new lovsan virus?
Kyllä (Yes in Finnish)
I hate all viruses (except Iron Maiden's song called virus:D )
But I have no viruses because my Norton AntiVirus is killing them before they do any damage

Well, I just got my machine back after a month of reparing or something because of a virus so nei (Norwegian for no) i don't have it..

Ja(Norwegian for Yes.. wow what a shock..) I hate viruses

In German Yes is Ja and no is Nein

Haven't got it yet, because I closed all doors via firewall. But I once got "half-life", real nasty little beast, deletes your hd from inside out.

Therefore the answer is of course - yes.

Lovsan aka MS.Blaster is "rather" harmless. It's actually sort of a bug in the worm code, that makes the OS restart.

Another question is: whom does the author of the worm hate? The worm body contains these strings:
I just want to say LOVE YOU SAN!!
billy gates why do you make this possible ?
Stop making money and fix your software!!

Loveson seems to be spreading in the wild.

I already know two people personally, who caught it. Both are private users. These people do not read computer mag's. - If you tried to tell them what a Remote Procedure Call was or a Buffer Overrun, they'd make a face as long as a fiddle.

The vulnerability of WinNT, Win2k and WinXP has been known for about four weeks now. It was only a matter of time until some malicious program would appear exploiting the bug.

If you are a network administrator, it is your job to deal with all of Microsofts Security Bulletins, it is your job to apply all the patches.

But if you are a private person, you won't notice the problem until it is too late. Of course there is an automatic Windows-Update built in the OS, but I guess most users forego it, because it is not really user-friendly. Does it even handle partial downloads? Why isn't the Windows Personal Firewall (?) activated by default?

I'll say it again: the problem was know for one month.

The situation seems to be the same like with Global Warming; people are hoping "Oh, it won't affect me." And then we go on like there's no tomorrow.

Is this really our "Last Stage of Delirium"

If Microsoft isn't willing to open the source code of critical modules, it must be forced to. At least if it further wants to sell any software to governmental institutions.
