Needless to say this game crashes quite often. I have 512mb of Corsair XMS memory,Geforce 6600GT 128mb agp video card & an AMD 2.167 mhz proc.

I have tried alot of things like memsaver, lowering the quality of graphics.Currently I'm playing a game with all setting on low....no problems yet but will keep posted, seems to run smoother. After the crash the screen goes black then a message about Civ4.exe has caused an unknown error....anyone else get this problem?

I know I have the minimum Recommended specs but man this game sucks so much from your system it's unbelieveable!!!! I'd like to see someone running this game at minimum specs....that would be quite impossible.
Yes I have all updated Windows, video card drivers, agp driver, sound drivers...you name it.However they made this game I'd advise a different approach for Civ 5,really.It uses way too much resources...or I guess you could say my comp sucks,LOL.

Anyways I have my the config file to auto save every 2 turns & to overwrite each file...because this game kicks a**. I've played awhile know & am totally hooked on it,like it better than Civ 3.I like the combat system, leads to a more challenging game for me,just started playing. Also like what they did with religion...hell the whole game is a step forward in the Civ series.Hopefully they can somehow fix the game to where it does'nt use up too much resources. Then I'd definately give it a 10....it just drives me crazy when the darn thing crashes. The only games I like are Large maps with 6 or 7 other civs.

FIX this game PLEASE!!!!

Right now I'm playing the French in the Industrial age & it looks like everyone has Modern Armor, had to declare war on Spain for the aluminum they had in a neighboring city.During this Germany declared war on me,takin a chance I sent some nukes his way....hahahaha Had about 7 nukes & 2 connected, taking out Berlin. They sent wave after wave of ships & transports which made it to my borders, luckily for me I survived, beat them back & launched the 2nd nuke at one of the 2 coastal cities they had.Lucky for me Germany does'nt have nukes...maybe no other civ has them,I have like 3 uraniums!

After battling the Aztecs for so long & defeating them with the help of Spain(fighting them also at the time) Ghandi the only other civ that remotely likes me plants a city on the cost of a captured Aztec city, well to say the least I'm pissed! It's really hard game to beat without friends....

This game is alot more challenging than Civ 3!:goodjob:

Your problem most likley not enough memory. The game is a notorious resource hog. I have 2gig of ram, and 512mb vid. memory, and the game will still lag a bit on a large map.

I had a few crashes when Norton Utilities started up on the weekly maintence and weekly in-depth virus check. Since the 1.52 patch it's been so stable that even those events no longer cause issues.

And I play on the two largest map sizes.

I got rid of Norton AV cause I could'nt kill one of the processes, using Avast currently...much better.

How much would you suggest? another gig...what kind of video has 512mb:eek: I've been thinking of getting more ram, what kind do you use.

Yeah, I have to change as my subscription ran out. I'll check it out. Thanks.

Its never crashed, even before the first patch. Its definitely one of the most stable games I've played, although generally speaking I rarely play crash-prone games.:goodjob:

I haven't had a single crash since 1.09 came out.

Specs: 1.3 GHz Pentium 4, 640MB RAM, 256MB FX5200, Audigy (not Audigy 2, just plain Audigy)

Never a crash. I agree with everyone else, you should just add more memory; adding another 512MB would probably cost less than Civ4!

Twice in 3 months (not bad) but both times, it took a part of my main drive with it (not so good). The first time, running chkdsk fixed the problem but the second time, two weeks ago, I ended up having to re-install XP.

Both times, I was so engrossed in the game that I played for 6 to 8 hours in a row and kept on playing well after the game was obviously running out of system resources and slowing down to a crawl. Eventually, the system stopped responding and didn't come back up normally after a hard reset.

I usually save, exit and reload long before it gets to that point and that fixes it for a few more hours.

I have never had it crash on me.

I've notice more and more games are using 1GB+ so it's wise to go ahead and get atleast another stick of 512mb of ram.

It crashed once, when i was alt-tabbing out of the game a lot and starting up other processes. That the only time it has ever happened. And i have a 856mhz processor and 758or so mb or ram with a mx 4400 video card

The game worked for me out of the box and has only gotten better with every patch, and I have below minimum specs. Not sure why I got so Lucky, but it runs great and I have had only one crash. I just tried the (Star War Empires at War demo) today and that game runs fine on my system too (so far) my computer is 5 years old and I have never had to fix one thing on it, I have had to upgrade the video card and ram but not because there was something wrong with it. The downside is that I cant find an excuse to buy a new computer which I would love to have so I could turn up the resolution and graphics on Civ4! Oh well I guess I shouldn't ***** about that, anyway good luck with you're computer!!
