[BTS] Yet Another Succession Game

Not loving the idea of declaring on Shaka, a unit spammer with anti-horse UU, but I'm sure the better players can pull it off. Definitely swap to Buddhism though. Unusual religious setup in this game, so it's a no-brainer.
Yes, deleting units (cause of upkeep costs) and waiting for Shaka to declare is so much better.

Extra info is BUG mode.

Agree with Pangaea on this one. Shaka is not a big threat as he can easily be bribed -- it's possible to attack him but certainly not necessary, plus attacking him would require several turns of building WEs/Cats. Really no need for such contemptuous posts.

Why would you ever do that? Current economy never would handle full scale war. Culture presence however allows strike both cities on T1. The one which can be seen has sword +archer, another probably defended similary... Current HA can handle that. Gems would make the whole thing worthwile... and you get defensive position should threat arise. (that's his cities 3 and 4, IIRC).

alternatively... what is major plan if he gets full hands 10-15 turns from now in the middle of economy build up? start making army yet again (HA's definitely not cutting on defense)? Or just hope to coexist with him peacefully (he might go after SB or he might not -- not taking bribes in that direction currently).

Both cities are on hills, and only 10 HAs left. 1 Sword + 1 Archer on a hill require ~4-5 HAs to take safely. Your troops are in no position to take both cities next turn. Plus you're not done with Hannibal yet and "have to" build a few WEs/Cats to take him out after the 10 turns peace treaty ends.

Now maybe I don't usually play on IMM, but on deity you don't just attack an AI blindly with very few troops, having no idea of where his stack might be. Even if you take both cities, he might wipe you out in a counter-attack. You have WEs, no reason to be greedy with HAs.

You can DoW Ragnar and bribe in Shaka (maybe also Mansa), builds up diplo points and is pretty safe.

I have not have enough time to inspect the latest save yet but it looks like @Snowbird did a very good job during the war!

But I also do not see the point in declaring on Shaka now. Lightly defended cities are tempting but then we have to deal with a counterattack. How could we do that without whipping more units? I think it is a much better idea to completely wipe out Hannibal after our peace deal expires. We shouldn't need many more units for that.

Also, I do not like the idea of gifting Construction to Ragnar. Pacal is not very dangerous as he has only four cities so why should we cripple him even more?

@Pangaea Please feel free to come back and play some more turnsets whenever you feel like it!

Since this thread saw reported private games anyway I tried. No, you can't bribe Shaka with current techs. If you gift Maths and Tech Currency maybe. Overall, if he is not taking bribe against 2 city Carthage (and he does not after tech peace) there is very low chance he takes it on Ragnar even with DoW.

From notes on the map it does look like Shaka connected metals latish. Between that and immortal dif I don't think he has real couterstack, few loose impi/swords maybe. By the time you get We in place attack window might close (1 turn to start, 1 turn to whip out, eternity to walk). No, I am not set on attacking him, but heal up HA get closer and check what defenses look like. Get few axes and walk them were.

Personally, I am done with Hannibal in all meanings. I do not intend to play further and if I did there is no real gain (I doubt if southern city will have good capture loot) bashing him further except some hope happiness in his former cities. I'd rather have gems for that happiness.

This is not deity, 5 city Shaka with last two likely being 1-2 pop settlements is just good as dead. At which point you can install few axes on these hill cities and cottage up towards Lib.

I would still love to finish this game. Unfortunately, real life is currently preventing me from playing any turns. I hope to be able to play a turnset soon but if anyone wants to participate then please don't hesitate at all!
