I'm getting the following error whenever I launch Civilization V on my friend's Apple:

"You cannot use this version of the application Civilization V with this version of Mac OS X"

She has a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8. 2 GHz Intel Core 2, memory 1 GB 667 MHz DDR.

I can run the game just fine at home (on my PC). On the Apple I logged in, installed Steam, looked at my games, clicked "download" and it downloaded and installed just fine, without error. It shows up as a "Mac game" when I open the Steam console on her machine.

I searched the forum and the Internet at large but didn't find this error anywhere. Can anyone help? How do I get this working on her machine?

Thanks,
Rob

P.S. I thought the whole point of the Mac was that you don't get technical problems when trying to do simple things! :)

That's true, but newer Mac software applications don't always run on older versions of the operating system. Snow Leopard (OS X version 10.6) is a $29 upgrade, and has been out for two years now. In fact, we are getting ready for version 10.7 - Lion.

You should also be aware that Civ5 is not a "simple thing", apparently. Civ5 seems to need every last ounce of the latest graphics goodies, and those are only available in OS X version 10.6, and they only run well on the latest top-end Mac hardware. Only Firaxis can explain why a seemingly simple turn-based strategy game needs the power of a super-computer to run, but that's the way it is.
