Your Civ 4 idiosyncracies

  i loved Rome on BBC 2, can't believe they cancelled the 3rd series:sad:

but more on topic, when playing as england i re-name all my ships HMS _______, it just feels right that way

It was on HBO and it certainly seemed like the show was meant to end after the second season all along. Historically speaking, nothing interesting happens in Rome for a long time after the second season ends. (Cleopatria and Marc Antony are both dead and Augustus gets named first citizen(?))

Actually, HBO originally announced they weren't even going to pick it up for the second season, then changed their minds.

I've always used Gorak (South Park).

Wodan

very nice. My new #2.

Additionally, nugz (warrior #1) always manages to travel the world but never does anything except tag along and I never upgrade him. He's like a mascot and always good for a morale boost for the troops.

My first carrier gets named USS Enterprise, my second USS Nimitz. Sometimes the battleships get named, too (Iowa-class).

yeah baby. :goodjob: Gotta rep the great state of Iowa and our badass ship

edit: i always do whatever i can to be buddies with America.

You've obviously never watched the amazing BBC series (and book) I, Claudius. Historically, the end of the second series of HBO's Rome started what most consider to be Rome's golden age.

I love this thread.

Personally, I like to rename my capital city "Paradise City".

No I haven't, but it sounds interesting. If I see it on the history channel or something, i'll be sure to watch. (I don't think I get the BBC, but I'll check) Maybe I'll see if there's a torrent around.

Yes, I knew that and that's probably a strike against it for good drama. Backstabbing, War, and Intrigue is what made the HBO show interesting. I'm no historian, but I think the peroid after the HBO show ended was basically Augustus with absolute power reigning over decades of peace and prosperity. Doesn't exactly sound like the stuff of a great HBO drama.

As SlightlyMad alludes to, the period of Augustus' reign, with Livia at his side, had as much intrigue, drama, battles and deaths (natural or otherwise) as you could hope for. I, Claudius is on DVD. It's a landmark mini-series, a tour de force for Derek Jacobi and I highly recommend it.

I concede, it's not the same kind of drama that made Rome great, it's more like a soap opera, but it's still an amazing series. It basically spans from the rule of Augustus to Claudius, and if you liked Rome you'll at least appreciate the Caligula part ;) You can probably find a torrent, or get the DVDs from Netflix or the video store.

To atone for my digression, my personal idiosyncrasy is that I rename any scout or warrior that kills a bear. I try to keep them alive for the rest of the game and bring them to any battle that needs a good luck charm. They usually die pretty early on, though (unless the scout gets a GG attached to him and used for medic-3).

I spam the map with signs to indicate sites of historic victories (or defeats). At particularly grueling city battles, I often leave a marker over the ruins to indicate that it was the Battle of (city name here).

I once renamed a destroyer "Huangpu Destroyer" because it was manufactured in Shanghai.

How do you go about doing this? I would love to do the same thing!

I always find myself building Forts to store my troops in during wartime. There is no need for them, but its something I always do.

I will never declare war on opponents with "puppy dog" faces, such as Qin

For some reason Monty will be my ally until 2050 because i like the Aztec history (sadistic or what)

I always own Julius first, because im related to the Celts.

Also i never crush Augustus's civ because i keep thinking he looks really young and think "He's only a teenager! Dont kill him young!"

-forgot... if i get a scout instead of a warrior at first i rename the scout "utter loser"
