I use the keypad to move and use the G key + mouse to move on railways, I use the mouse for most other things though, I can never remember those shift+alt+f1+backspace+X commands.

They didn't have home computers when I was young :D .

In civ usually one hand on the mouse, one on the keyboard covering all keys except numpad.

I got used to playing like that from starcraft where speed is very important and you need to use the keyboard maximally to be competetive.
(pro players have an average of well over 300 commands per minute (i got 90 :p))

Not at all, Doc. That's why I use the mouse - so my left hand is free. Course it gets confusing when I want a beer too ...

(But in general, I prefer the keyboard).

Not so, but I have always used mouse mostly :mischief:

Hehe. I recently thought about asking the same question. I keep my left hand on s, d, f, and g, and my right hand on the mouse.

I mostly use the keyboard, but I need to use the mouse occasionally.

Right hand: mouse, left hand: keyboard. I know most of the hotkeys for stuff like woker jobs, bombardment, and stack movement, so I use those. I usually use the goto orders for any moves longer than one step, or whenever I'm moving more than one unit at once, so I rarely use the number pad. Also, I prefer F4 for diplomacy rather than shift-d.

Just a note, but true civfanatics can hit any hotkey in their sleep. :D

Therefore no hands are needed for the hotkeys, because any hand doing anything else can easily hit a hotkey.

Which means lefties can play civ the most effeciently (in terms of energy used) by having the left hand on the mouse and the right hand on the number pad. :D
