La Fayette,

Your WWII records are safe from me. But I just finished JB's Visigoth scenario in 601AD (35 turns), so I probably have 2 Spanish HOF records now. You better get busy before I catch up with you!

Actually, I am not 100% sure I finished - I play MGE, which doesn't count objectives correctly. I took all the wonders and 30 objective cities, which seems to be all there is. What bothers me is I never even met the Berber tribe [why are they even in the scenario if they have no objective cities?]

Peaster,

There's no hurry beating my ww2 records ;)
but I'm sure you would enjoy having a try when you get accustomed to modern weapons.

With 30 objectives, I bet you have won the "Visigoth" (since I only had 28) and 601AD looks pretty soon. Congratulations :goodjob:

LF, I am playing the "Time of Thunder" one now, which is a bigger and slower scenario than most of JB's. You have the best record on this one (of course), but you didn't finish it ! I have played up to the point you stopped, with an almost identical score (51 out of 62 at the start of May 1585).

I will keep going, I guess, probably all the way to Moscow. I hope you will also continue some day, and maybe we can compare the games then.

"La Belle Epoque" is an amazing scenario :D

Look at the rules!
They state that a decisive victory is achieved when you have 80 points: I stopped at 85 (since I hate long and boring endgames when you are sure you have won, but must go on moving hundreds of units).

Well, most of your posted HOF games go all the way to the end... even past "decisive victory" I assume. With MGE it is usually hard to decide what a decisive victory is anyway, unless you can count the points by hand.

I finished "Thunder" (62/62 MGE objectives) in March of '87. I am not especially proud of my play - I made some mistakes, and feel that many people could finish faster than I did. But it was enjoyable up to the end, because it was a race against time, or at least I thought it was :crazyeye:

I sent the 3 saves to jasev, starting 3 weeks ago, but he seems to be behind on posting them. I have started playing Alba De America, but have not found a good strategy for it yet. There are many problems with money, science, and happiness... not to mention conquering! It would be fun to talk strategy if anybody else wants to try this scenario.

Over the last month, I have tried several of the scenarios mentioned in this thread, at least briefly. Capsule reviews:

JB's Alba de America: IMO, this one is more challenging than the first three JBs I tried. Though I like the scen, it is big and long, and I have not yet found a strategy I like. I have put this one on the shelf for a while.

JB's Crimson Manuscript: I tried this once, but didn't come close to the best finish dates posted in the Spanish HOF. I am not sure the #1 game is even legit. I looked at La Fayette's game (#2 IIRC) and saw that he relied on an excellent attacking unit, which I had overlooked. Out of humility and respect, I won't try this scen again for a while.

WWII - This era is not my favorite, though I have played around with the Axis position and the Turkish position a bit, and may play this out more seriously someday.

Alex Mor's Spartacus - This has some potential, but I wonder if my scen files are set up properly. There are land units labelled "Pirates" which appear to be catapults, and there are catapult units which cannot be attacked. The Civilopaedia seems very incomplete, so the scen is basicly unplayable without studying the rules.txt. Does anybody know this scen ?

I played the first turns of that scenario a while ago, but I didn't enjoy it at all, since I had the permanent feeling that the "events" file was stronger than any strategical move I made.
