Your favorite units?

I really like the Close Air support planes (A-10 Warthogs, I think) in Varietas Delectat. They can really make a mess of an incoming stack, and they are just nifty when it comes to offense too.

Oh, goodness, no. Siege is your friend.

A properly promoted stack of artillery can soften a city up so much that a scout can nearly take the whole city on his own. Throw in a fast worker and victory is guaranteed.

(Yes, I know that's not true. There's no need to correct me. :p)

I know the siege are helpful and all but there movement is so slow and they can never destroy a city on there own if if they reduce a city's defences to 0, they always need some kind of help

Yes, they are about as slow as your prefered unit (swordman). Or infantry. Or aout anything but gunship on hilly terrain.

Tac nukes are a bit more difficult to use, thus more micro. That said, there is one fun thing I can do with tac nukes I can't do with ICBM's: I can gift them to AI's at war with each other. Now THAT is funny.

Very interesting. :).....:nuke:

So, I should level flanking instead of combat? I was never a big fan of flanking.

The NC is one of my favorite units, and with Hanibal's traits, it's a win win. To answer your question, yes. The thing with NCs is that they start with flanking 1 out of the gate, so it's just one promotion and you get flanking 2, that's +20% survival chances, always. Very worth it. Plus since the NC has no hard counter (other then War elephants, and pikes), if you rush them you're going to be looking at 65+% survival chances just attacking cities without even bringing down the defenses. TheLazyHase pretty much explains the strat, you mass them and just attack and alot more of them will survive then you would guess from flanking, then it's just clean up. What happens is you end up getting massively promoted NCs as a result. Basically like TheLazyHase states, these aren't units that you need to protect, expect alot to die, use them kind of like siege. Anyway I've always found NCs to be increadibly strong units, could very well be my favorite UU. Their only downside is if you don't start near horses, because their window of use at high levels is pretty small, you really want to use them for an early rush before longbows get out.

Drill IV Oromos > Riflemen > Infantry. No matter what you throw at them, they get out without a scratch. In my last game Monty threw 8 galleons worth of medieval troops on 3 Drill IV Riflemen, none of them was wounded after killing the whole stack.

Immortals. Every time I play Persian and have horses, nobody survives the BC years on my landmass.

Problem with NCs is that the AI underproduces Spears a lot and overproduces Archers by the dozen. NCs are crap against Archers compared to HAs and thus they are often worse. Never been able to use them en masse like HAs or Keshiks. They're very nice support units, though.

My fav unit must be the Cavalry (intentionally excluding cheesemania like Quechua, Praetorian and Immortal). Those babies are the death of a million pre-Rifling AIs.

In terms of general units, I find swordsmen + elephants + catapults to be good fun. Privateers and submarines are probably my favourite naval units. And I like fighters and bombers in the modern age. In terms of unique units, I like vultures, skirmishers and fast workers for practicality, and samurai and keshiks for fun and the badass factor.

My favorite is Machine Guns. Until airpower and Marines come along, they can pretty much seal up anything, within reason. True any defense unit can be destroyed by a sufficient amount of any particular attacking unit, but well situated MG's can easily make such an endeavor a pyrrhic victory, unless the attacker has superior technology.

Navy Seals...

One of the few reasons to build a big fleet, feel free to take up to 3 cities per turn.

I have a few favourite units:

Landsknetch: I know many consider Holy Rome's UU crap, but I find them to be good escorts for my Siege and Muskets against those nasty Knights, which my AIs always seem to get so many of. They have also make great defenders as my AI don't usually attack with xbows. They have on more than one occasion saved my hide from Shaka and Monty.

Fast Worker: You can never go wrong with a super worker.

Conquistadores: DIE MONTY DIE!!!!

My favorite unit is probably CR3 maceman promoted to rifleman...

This may sound odd, but I'm rather fond of Impis. They make really good scouts and their movement comes in really handy. If I get a stack of those, I usually like to rush with them in the early game. I even keep a few around later on because of that movement ability.
