OTR match, anyone?

More rocket attacks. I've dramatically increased the cost of these going forward as it is way too easy to build a ton of them.

More V1s downed. Heavy A-20 losses trying to take out the Cherbourg sites. These seem impregnable but our plucky flyers will keep trying!

Sorry about the delay. I couldn't find any spare time yesterday!

Significant rocket attacks launched on Britain, most of the V2s don't do much damage but one stings London. Nothing completely destroyed. I might need to consider how vulnerable these are, especially when stacked with gun batteries. Let me know what you find.

My strategy of building tons of night fighters to try and take on your 88s and 110s over the Ruhr has paid off in an unexpected way - they have a new role defending the south coast from V1 attacks. I think I got them all this turn. As far as taking on the root of the problem, I've finally destroyed an exposed V1 site near Calais, although failed to dent the sites hidden in emplacements. Cherbourg is a complete no-go with reaction fire one-shotting my A-20s.

Those gun batteries are perfect cover for the V1 sites. Attacked one at Cherbourg with 7 A-20s with no effect.

An exposed V2 site near Cherbourg proved an enticing target; 3 A-20s lost without a dent.

V2s attack some more English cities, destroying some urban targets. We make some attacks on formation over channel but after losing fighters, decide we'll wait until a few peel off.

This is from a few turns back but I thought it was a cool picture. You have quite the defensive system to shoot all of these down!

As I say, I built a crap-load of Beaufighters in the hope of using them in night bombing raids to lure your night-fighters in, but their role has changed somewhat :)

I've got a lunchtime meeting just now, so should be free in an hour or so to play

All the V1s picked up by radar shot down again. Brest dockyards bombed and destroyed with losses. No effect from V1/V2 site bombing.

John, I've realised that the game is up for me in this scenario. I have finally got my economy on track, there's a good flow of convoys coming in and the 8th AF is built up to the maximum capacity of my current airfields, with more new airfields on the way. Bomber Command is slowly being rebuilt to take on night bombing of Germany again with fresh vigour. I had a healthy fleet of medium bombers operating on the Atlantic on ASW duties (although they've been decimated by V1 site attacks!) and more night-fighters than you could shake a big stick at on hand to easily cope with V1 raids.

Having said all that I realise earlier mistakes and slowness in developing technology have left me in a position where I can't take on your V1 and V2 sites with any hope of success. I'm several research cycles away from getting Tempests, and doing so will hurt my ability to escort B-17s to further-flung targets. As I can't hit your V1/V2 sites I'm gaining no points in the scenario, and there will be no defence for my cities from V2 attacks. As a consequence, I'm reluctantly throwing in the towel; well fought and thanks for an extremely enjoyable game!

Having said that, if you want to continue and develop your victory further, I'm genuinely more than happy to play on. I'm really in the groove with this scenario now, and I've got to say it's now amongst my favourite of all time as a result of playing. It is simply without parallel in terms of innovation and gameplay. It really captures the feeling of running the bombing campaign in WW2 - well done to both yourself and Garfield!

Hi Gareth,

No problem at all taking a break - I think I'm nearing the point of no return in my match with Prof. Garfield as well. Very well fought for someone brand new to this and it was enjoyable sparring with you and trying out some different theories. I hope you had fun as it was very valuable for me from a playtesting perspective both in seeing how someone new to the scenario would do and also in getting to try out some different weapons like the V1/V2 that I hadn't tried before.

I suspect I'll be tweaking with many files in the future and would love your input. Perhaps when this is done, you would like to try a game as the Germans? I think I may have erred telling you that the Allies were "simpler." While this is true from a game mechanic sense, they also need to be pretty on point (at least in the current version) to prevail.

Anyway, thank you very much for stepping up and playing. It will really help with refining this a bit and making it more enjoyable for all.

Hi John, I'm definitely up for playing as the Germans once you have made your changes. Despite having my ass handed to me I very much enjoyed the scenario playing as the Allies; I need to find a novice who I can compete against in a replay, or perhaps if I can emulate Tootal's ability to be even-handed, I'll try a solo hot seat as both sides. Have you given this a go solo yourself?
