[GS] Gathering Storm General Discussion Thread

yeah that's my point. stuff like that doesn't fit the scale of the game. they had floods and storms as random events in civ4. that worked. turning it into a major game feature is just silly, imo. i disagree with the notion that you have to present a solution. they had climate change in other...

[GS] Gathering Storm General Discussion Thread

the article on their website ( https://civilization.com/news/entries/civilization-vi-gathering-storm-new-expansion-release-date-pc-february-14-2019/ ) ed beach talks about how they added storms. it's also in the feature list " (blizzards, sand storms, tornados, hurricanes) ". storms are weather...

[GS] Gathering Storm General Discussion Thread

just saw the trailer for the first time and read about the news. i think i'll pass on this one. some of the new stuff sounds good, but a weather system is kinda silly in a game where each turn is at least 1 year (or up to 20 years or something in the early game). the future era is a no-go for...

Some unit promotions are too situational

commando is pretty "meh", but you have to consider the skill tree as a whole. you have the choice between battlecry+commando vs. tortoise+amphibious.

    Poll: Score Victory/Unlimited Turns

i never got anywhere close to the default turn limit in any civ game before winning, so i don't bother turning it off.

To move or not to move - first city placement

original question seems to be resolved already, but i'll answer anyway :) i think i would settle in place and later put another city on the plains tile left of the warrior. that city doesn't need fresh water. it will build a harbor and work the science tiles adjacent to the natural wonder and...

    A question regarding "Bombard Strength"

in the civ6 combat system, -17 strength equals ~50% less damage dealt (and 100% more damage taken). you can counter the penalty by picking the 2 promotions that add combat strength vs. land units (grape shot & shrapnel). both combined add 17 str vs. land units, which (i guess) basically...

    Q: City Sizes-Distance

in my first few games, i built most cities at 4 tiles minimum distance. the rules for overlapping industry and entertainment districts (later in the game) also encouraged this (multiple factory/zoo boni stacked on top of each other). devs removed the stacking in a later patch, so now i usually...

    Is Logistics underrated?

logistics has been my default option for military since i discovered how convenient the extra +1 move really is. not just for military - also for builders.

Talk to me about the space race

space victory has 3 stages: - launch satellite - land on the moon - launch mars colony the items required for the 3 stages are built as city projects. only a city with a spaceport can build them. the satellite and moon landing only require 1 project, the mars colony is split into 3 different...

Is it worth building Petra ?

i'd settle the city 1 east of the stone (north of the mountains). 5 desert hills in range (though you may have to buy them up before the CS expand there) you'd have to sacrifice the stone or one of the desert hills to place a bath. i guess you could harvest the stone (or maybe even both stones...

    Score Victory - Empire Points

did anyone research the connection between in game score, winning date and "hall of fame" score ? i'm pretty sure in previous civ games the final score was multiplied by some factor based on victory turn. as a simple example - you have 1000 points and win on turn 250/500, so you actually get...

Cities can no longer receive yields from more than one regional building per type

sure, that's how it used to work and it still works like that. the adjacency and workshop production points were always local and not part of the area bonus. the only thing that was changed is that multiple sources of area bonus don't stack from any more.

    Why do people say "Diety"?

"Diety" and "Emporer" have probably been around since civ2 :)

Cities can no longer receive yields from more than one regional building per type

the yield of the basic industrial zone isn't that great actually, and the workshop is quite expensive for what it adds. you have to invest quite a lot of hammers so it will take a long time to pay back the investment. without the stacking bonus of factories and power plants, i wouldn't consider...
