  • There's a really huge amount of stuff to see.

The top sites are - Topkapı Palace, the old palace of the sultans. Aya Sofia, which is the old Byzantine Cathedral. Sultan Ahmet Mosque aka the Blue Mosque. The Basilica Cistern, which is an old Byzantine cistern, more interesting than it sounds. And there's the Grand Bazar, which some people find too touristy. Those are the top sites.

There are dozens of other sites, the Archaeological museum, a lot of other historical mosques, some other historical churches. There's Taksim which is the main square of the newer part of the city where all the protests are going on now and Istiklal Caddesi which is the main street in the new part of town which is actually from the 19th century I think.

Really there's so much to see, you need to get a guidebook or something. I'm not in Turkey at the moment I'm in Iraq but might go there next week, not to Istanbul though.
Oh btw, my Iranian uncle who lives in Germany but also has a house in Istanbul (yes, he's rich) has invited me to come over to visit him in Istanbul, but apparently I have to 'prepare' some songs on the piano for him. He's even going to provide the plane ticket and everything, but I haven't got around to practicing... lol. Supposing I end up going though, what would you recommend I see there?
I second what caketasty said. Also, I got a kick that you caught my 'gay serial killing stalkers' quip with respect to the Babs. I also have no idea how she got so damn popular with gay people.
I appreciate your good manners actually letting me know. I was worried I was spamming your wall and annoying you.
    Warning, hokey advice to follow........
It seems clear to me, given both your sentiments and current "schedule", that a hiatus would be at the least a worthy and beneficial endeavour. Experiencing the alternative and completing the process will pay off anyway should you decide living teetotal isn't for you.
Unfortunately, when it comes to CH, if there's the remotest chance that his feelings on a religious topic are sincere, it's probably true.
