  • Ahh I forgot all about the avatar - seems appropriate to wait until, as and when, I get NESCraft updated :)
I'm not over confident, just saying that it is a pretty bad plan to go with something as complicated as bucket leafs that can be eaten for allowing a predator that wasn't supposed to be on land to exist there. It would be simpler and less risky to adapt a life form already there to serve the role of predator.
Well, it occurs to me that if there are predators in the leaves, the Haerent will stop eating said leaves. I'm going to ask Iggy though, see what he says.
    Okay...so, now what?

I would rather find as foolproof an evolution as possible for both of us. As Patchy pointed out, leaves might not work. Could you just change it to be a large pit on top maybe, made of the same structure as the proto-trunk? Same purpose, different material. It has a proto-trunk, right? After all, it is the leaves that are being eaten.

Or is that not an option?
Not the point, if there is nowhere for the predators to live then Iggy kills them and the Haerets get to continue on eating peacefully.

We would be better off evolving the trappers or skitterers to prey upon the Haerets, they at least are already living on land.
A system of leafs for water reservoirs would fail horribly as leafs are what the Haerent prey upon in the first place. By eating they would be simultaneously feeding themselves and depriving the Tashe of the water that they need, a single bite would create a leak and take away all the water.
System of leaves sounds good too. It's simpler, and more fool proof I think.

A proboscis, can't think how that would help break a shell. I'm thinking jaw here.
How do you think making the Tashe omnivores would go over? The Maves have terrible water retention from what I can tell, meaning it would require a lot of water. If the fruit have substance to them, that would mean that the predatation upon the bugs would become a moot point, and just kill the plants faster. It would need to be very light and porous almost for that to work I'd think. If you want to do that (which I do like) I would rather run it by Iggy for his opinion before committing it.

Otherwise, the water would need to somehow be external to be accessible. I've heard of jungle plants doing that on Earth though, with frogs and stuff in them. No reason it can't happen here.

As for the Tashe... a proper jaw perhaps? Or a proto-talon? Something to crack the Haerent shells.
I don't mind! I'm in a bit of a depression at the moment and not very creative :/ Also, I got out of the habit of staying up until the wee small hours, when I would usually churn out an update. Its been a fun NES for me as mod, so I'm aiming to get back into it soon!
I use Corel Photo-Paint, but you could use Photoshop or Gimp or whathaveyou. Just painting pixels manually (although masking and colour-select tools can help). Its hard to say how much time, I already had tons of sprites I made for DaftNES IV. To guess, so far its been about 1/3 drawing new sprites, 1/3 fiddling around moving and placing things on the map (again I use Photo-Paint for that, not sure if you can handle lots of floating objects with Gimp), and 1/3 writing up the events. Also, apologies no update yet, tomorrow hopefully!
I just create things from scratch :) Unless I can recycle things I made for the abortive DaftNES IV. I've had quite a bit of practice now, going back to my efforts making sprites for Civ II... WAY back in the day.
    Was it OK?
I'm assuming 2 things. 1, the water spell is for electric and 2, your silver buying/shipments are attacked. Whether it was an actual super or just excitable kids I left it ambitious, and maybe you can collab with someone else to flesh that oout.
