Cross-Platform Civ3 Editor

Cross-Platform Civ3 Editor 1.48

Version 1.28 adds filters to the Building tab, and also enhances all filters (including tech and unit) to allow filtering by the != property.
Version 1.27 adds Charm support for units, and significantly enhances the power of tech/unit filter queries. See the details in the thread and the updated Help documentation for the filters.

Note that this is a Java 8 build; if you already have Java 11, you will want to either stay with 1.26 Mac in the interim, or "Windows XP-ize" this new version.
Version 1.26 adds the ability to replace Civilizations in a save game file with updated civ information.

There is also a Mac version, with details available in post #1040.
Version 1.25 adds notices about incompatibilities with Java 11, which shipped earlier today.

It also includes advise on how to keep using the editor while work on an update to address Java 11 related issues is in progress.
This version fixes two minor bugs, one introduced in 1.23 that would append duplicate ".biq"s to the file name on save, and another older one related to adjusting safety levels.
Version 1.23 brings the first iteration of a system for patching SAV games with updated rules, speeds up the BMP to BIQ process, and fixes a couple minor bugs. See the forum thread for full details.
Version 1.22 adds one new feature, fixes one bug, and improves performance on one area.

- Units are now displayed in civ-specific color on the map.
- Fix a bug where adding a new unit, and then dragging-and-dropping it, causes the unit list to freeze up.
- Reduce memory use while loading a BIQ by 40-50%
Version 1.21 fixes several bugs, including one important one when there is custom player data, and several more esoteric ones for when there is no custom player data, but is a custom player map. It also makes the map more robust, so that a map error does not prevent the map from being viewed. See the thread for full details.
Changes for 1.20:

  • City defense bonus now shows up on the map
  • Fixed bug where if you had a menu open and were on the Map tab, before long the map would draw over your menu
  • The DIFF tab now tells you what the start unit types are
  • Basic map statistics (terrain type count/percent) can now be displayed
  • Add remaining "special actions" to the regular menus to increase their visibility
  • Menus are now smarter about disabling things that aren't valid at the current time
  • Code clean-up related to startup, which reduces start-up time by about 20%

See the thread for additional details
Version 1.19 adds two new features:

- You can now copy Units and Goods (more copying to arrive in later versions)
- The opening page will now has an Editor Feature Spotlight that will let you know about editor features that you may not have known about
Version 1.18 focuses on improvements to the Download Units experience, which integrates with the CFC Downloads Database. See the full details in post #983 in the thread.
Version 1.17 adds filtering for essentially all the options on the Technology tab, expands filtering options for the Unit tab, and replaces the old file chooser with your native operating system's file chooser for most file opening and saving operations. See the thread for full details.
Version 1.16 has a variety of fixes, but the biggest one is introducing the concept of startup-screen widgets, which make use of the empty space you see prior to opening a .biq. The first two are Copy Settings (which appears on the first run, and does lets you copy settings from a previous editor folder), and Resume Editing, which is a quick link to re-open the most-recently-edited BIQ.

See the thread for full details, including the rest of the changes in 1.16.
Version 1.15 fixes an old bug, and addresses a few quality-of-life user requests. See the forum thread for full details. Highlights are below:

- You can now filter units based on civs they are available to when the civ has a space in their name.
- Safety Level settings are now saved between editor launches.
- The Select Icon window for units is now scrollable.
- Fixed a bug that would cause the map to stop rendering if you added a playable civ on the PLYR tab, viewed the PROP tab, and then viewed the map tab.

Version 1.14 contains several additional filters for viewing units, detection of the Phantom Resource Bug, and a fix for Help not displaying on Windows XP with recent Java updates. See post #950 in the thread for full details.
This update adds filtering to the unit list, based on attack, defence, movement, unit class, era, and civilization availability.
- Infinite loops in unit upgrade paths are now detected and you are notified of them prior to save.
- The editor will now let you know if there are new versions available.
- Autosave will now save any changes you've made to the unit/tech/etc. you are currently editing (not just ones you've already edited)
- Newly added techs will be available as prerequisites on the TECH tab immediately (vs after a restart)
- The editor will continue to behave normally if a unit's icon index is too high for your units_32.pcx file's dimensions.
- Help will now correctly detect when you are offline, and will display the offline version of Help.
- Help -> View Help will now work the first time you try it, just like F1.
- Replaced File -> Exit in the online Help window with File -> Close, which only closes that window and not the entire editor.
